| 647400 | 2008-03-08 09:12:00 | Hi Have had wireless broadband connected to desktop machine for some time . A wireless router (Linksys) was then added for laptop . No problems . Now we have changed ISP and gone with ADSL . It is not convienent to have modem directly connected to desktop, so I am attempting to set up wireless connection . Have connected the ADSL modem to the router, and I am now not able to access broadband . I have checked that modem is okay by directly plugging it in . Works fine . Can see the wireless network fine . It is just that I am not able to have them work together . Zone Alarm - in trusted zone . What else am I missing, or need to do? Thanks in advance . |

| 647402 | 2008-03-08 20:09:00 | Bit hard to understand what you are saying but I assume you are trying to connect the desktop by wireless. The wireless router is working ok as you can connect to it by the laptop - correct. Have you setup the wireless network correctly on the desktop, check all the settings eg is it set to obtain IP and DNS automatically. |

Let me explain, hopefully with more clarity . I have a linksys wireless router, and a recently purchased linksys ADSL modem . I am also wanting to have my desktop use a wireless connection - everybody will connect this way . I am having an issue with connecting to the internet via the router . As I originally suggested, connection is fine when directly from modem to desktop . If I try and connect through the router - nothing . This is the same for both laptop and desktop . DHCP is enabled on router . What do I need to do to create domestic harmony ( or at least as much as having net access will bring)? |

Do an ipconfig /all on your PC and see what the gateway address is - it should be your ADSL modem's IP address . Also is the IP schema for your wireless router the same as for your ADSL modem? i . e . your modem may be using 192 . 168 . xxx . xxx and your wireless router might be using 10 . 1 . xxx . xxx etc . Can you ping your ADSL modem when you're connected wirelessly? |
