341497 2005-04-05 09:09:00 Cats are pests.
Kiwis rock.

No doubt some cat lover will express outrage at that article and my "cats are pests" comment, and then proceed to reel off 101 reasons to own a cat and argue that those who dislike cats are poor, sad individuals who simply "don't understand cats".

Cats Rule.

Kiwis and other native birds are most at risk from mustilids, rodents, and dogs.

341500 2005-04-05 10:01:00 I wasn't aware that we had Kiwis in Wisconsin

However, it you talk to Regional Council conservation people they do say it is important to tackle the problem of predators simultaneously, trying to get rid of one kind at a time can cause others to multiply .

Think I've mentioned this before, but in the Wellington Rimutaka Forest Park some years ago, feral cats were targeted . It resulted in a multiplication of the rat problem .

So cats, stoats, rats, possums, deer, pigs, all have to go, then the bush and the birds will have a chance .

Yeeeeow! Well, so much for promoting a Shoot Cats Weekend...
... (they have a Shoot Rabbits Weekend down South, or at least they did and it really irritated some of the animal lovers).

BTW, I was going to title this thread Shoot Cats! but figured too many feline fanciers would take exception.
On reflection, I should have posted that title.

341502 2005-04-05 10:57:00 Cats are nasty beings. They eat, sleep and excrete everywhere (since the word that I used previously was censored, substitute with excrete), that's all they can do. :groan: No matter how cute a cat can be, eventually, you find all your furnitures being scratched, lawn being dug out as well as unwanted odour scented around the house. Dogs are much more useful. Cheers :) Renmoo (66)

Now you've done in Jameskan. Just wait for the impending "humans are nastier beings, dogs are stupid, cats are intelligent, clean, tidy animals that bury their poo blah blah blah" argument from the moggy brigade...

341504 2005-04-05 19:59:00 I have had several cats over the years, and found them to be nice pets, quite amusing and comforting at times. So I don't hate cats, but I am much more of a dog person. The worse thing was cleaning up the cat crap from the carpet; half a box of sodium bicarbonate left for a few weeks did the trick of removing the stink.

Had to laugh when at a friend's house the other day. She is really really into healthy food clean environmental living good health etc. Anyway she was going on about how cats are so clean because they lick themselves all the time. Jeeeeeshhh! Try a Google on diseases transmitted to humans by cats, and allergies! They may look clean but they carry heaps of fungus and bacteria, worse than dogs.

Too right! Just think what a pristine beautiful place the world would be if there had never been humans :p
