339778 2005-03-31 02:18:00 Hi everyone

It is bad enough having all these flashing advertisements on Press F1, but now I see we have advertisements that move across our screen while we try and view threads. In the last couple of minutes there has been "Does your pet fish have a better memory than your PC?" and "Tempermental Office Printer". Surely these can be eliminated from the site? I am not going to switch to Firefox and obtain the ad-on advert blocker as I am more than happy with Netscape - just please get rid of those annoying ads!

339779 2005-03-31 02:27:00 I don't see anything. Not the regular ads either.

I have javascripts turned on, but I have many adserver addresses in my hosts file. Maybe you should start one up. Just looks at the page source to work out where the ad is served from, and block that site.

Makes browsing much quicker for sites like pressf1. Most of these ads are served on multiple sites, so blocking them once will work from many sites.

339780 2005-03-31 02:32:00 Come on Lyn, be a "Cheerful Member".

Guess what helps to pay for this site. I don't like flashing advertisments myself, but I manage to ignore most advertising. Much is blocked by the proxy here, but I do see (or ignore) whatever is part of a site's pages.

And does your pet fish have a better memory than your computer? ;)

Very funny! Perhaps I should change it to 'Grumpy Member' today! Maybe the ads do pay for the site, but I still object to them floating down and around on the screen when I am trying to view threads.

Does anyone know of an ad-on ad-blocker for Netscape? Obviously the pop-up blocker does not work on these.

339783 2005-03-31 02:56:00 Had a quick look at the page source. Nothing there.

You may have adware.

339784 2005-03-31 03:05:00 If I don't see them, they are not on the page source. They are supplied by call to the advertising site ("doubleclick"?). Don't people make entries in the hosts file to handle such things? Graham L (2)
339785 2005-03-31 03:07:00 Hi Oxie,

The HP ad you mention is one of the very few "eye-blaster" campaigns that IDG does and these only run for a fixed time frame.

I'm sorry that you find it annoying, but advertising is what helps to pay for our sites, including this FREE help forum.

I enabled my hosts file and then pop-up ads in Opera to check out these annoynances but although I can see the fish at the top of the window they don't float down and around either in Opera nor in IE here.

Have you had a look to see if it still happens in your Internet Explorer?

Oh. Well how can I get to see these clever fish with lots of memory floating around my screen, then? :p
