648668 2008-03-11 22:12:00 thanks to those who responded to my earlier question
there are surely many to chose from

however....this has led me to a new problem
the wma files i have to convert fail
it appears i need some codec file to release them

i might add that the music is songs i have recorded myself

if anyone can help with this i would be grateful

648673 2008-03-12 01:05:00 If you have the cd's and you want to rip the songs to mp3's, I'd delete the ones you have allready done into wma's and just use something like freerip (www.download.com)
to do it with no further conversions required

(make sure to untick "install my search browser toolbar" when installing that one)

Otherwise there's heaps of other ones (www.google.co.nz) you could use

Allways avoid wma format if you can - prone to problems with drm etc

648677 2008-03-12 01:43:00 BTW - (missed my 15 minute edit time :)

You'll need to set the default output folder before you start ripping, or you'll get an error.

First make a folder somewhere (desktop folder called Ripped Songs or something:))

Then run Freerip and go to File -> Settings -> Options and click the "Output" tab.

Second down you'll see "Output Base Path"

Click into the empty line and then click the small box that appears - that will open the "browse for folder" function

Find the Folder you made and click to highlight it then click OK and OK

Done!

Start ripping :)
