648049 2008-03-09 22:41:00 Is there a software program to recover a deleted file.

Have a new flash drive which I saved a file on and inadvertently deleted.

XTGold used to be a great program for undeleting files.

Help would be appreciated.

Lurking.

ps. An important family tree file to boot!.

648050 2008-03-09 22:58:00 I've got a few, but you'll have to pay for them, to recover the files.

The trial versions look like they'll scan for deleted files, but wont recover them for you.

Unless you pay

You havent used this flash drive since have you?? Otherwise, you'll have less chance of getting that file back.

648052 2008-03-10 00:22:00 You might use (but be careful) the DOS undelete command.
The command might look like undelete d:\word\*.bak
This will restore a file in word with a bak (backup) extension.
It will get a funny name like some of the characters are missing. This is normal. darroll

648055 2008-03-10 01:40:00 Buy a Sandisk flash drive mine came with great recovery software (2Gb Cruzer), I have used it a couple of times. It probably recovers off other brands of drive. Bantu (52)
648056 2008-03-10 01:58:00 Sorry guys, in too much of a hurry:

Win98SE system.

ADATA USB Flash Drive PD2 2gig. No software at all with it.

USB 1 card in pc.

Kahawai, downloaded PCInspector and it shows 2 files deleted. 1 a Temp and 1 a Zip.

Both show 26 size!, these would be one and the same, as it was the very first file saved to this drive.

Have saved them both to different drive as advised by PCInspector.

What to do next?.

Not like XTGold at all, edited the Star and put in your file's first letter!.

Thanks a lot meantime guys.

ps. Bantu, lucky you, our 2 units were Xmas presents!!!, gift horse and all that.

648057 2008-03-10 03:53:00 Well I managed to download ZTreeWin latest trial version.

The "Oops" facility for deleted files showed vary little and that is simply because I use the wrong Deletion method of Shift & Delete, this is the fatal way of deleting.

Never mind an extra backup on another drive, is not right up to date but it will have to suffice.

Thanks for all your replies.

648058 2008-03-10 06:02:00 Try Recuva from the makers of CCleaner. beeswax34 (63)
