344037 2005-04-12 09:48:00 It is exceedingly irritating to constantly find travel agents quoting prices for trips to places which exclude costs for airport tax, etc, etc. Why is it allowed that they do this. The quoted cost should be the real cost. Time we stood up !!

344038 2005-04-12 10:33:00 Agreed, but .... the easy way? Just ask em how much to write the cheque for ;) |llus|oN (645)
344039 2005-04-13 11:44:00 Because taxes are dependent on the route and airline flown and they change fairly frequently. The taxes and surcharges are usually quoted in foreign currency - for example taxes at Australian airports are in AUD, and most fuel and insurance surcharges are in USD. Chris Randal (521)
344040 2005-04-13 11:50:00 bah.

Its called marketing, they have the full set of figures for each trip right in front of them and don't quote the real cost.

Just need to tell them at the outset you want the real cost of each route, and if they still try and make their crap flow then get up,take your money elsewhere, and bad mouth em to your freinds and family.

344041 2005-04-13 12:10:00 Hi. There was an Australian travel agent on the radio earlier today. He mentioned his latest newspaper ad which states that the costs for one specific trip was $98 for the flight plus $128 for add-ons. He reckons that he is sick of being abused by people who ring about the cheap flights and then get taken to the cleaners. Reckoned that the add-ons were out of the travel agents hands. Scouse (83)

Like alot of retailers initially excluded GST and put it in fine print at the bottom (excludes GST). You make it sound as cheap as possible and then tell the punters "well actually, you have to add on x and y and z". :yuck:

344043 2005-04-14 10:00:00 I no longer care what they charge. I've given up on ovseas holidays since they brought in their "NO SMOKING" rule.
I notice now that a lot of NZ motels and Lodges are also no smoking. They too have lost my custom.

344044 2005-04-14 23:26:00 Metla,

In your business do you quote plus GST in your advertising?
Chris Randal (521)
344045 2005-04-14 23:31:00 Hell yes.

Its allways gutted me to brows a site, select a few items, cruise through to the checkout and discover an extra $80 tax whacked on the total. All my prices are listed with GST,the full purchase price, I can see no reason why a customer would want to see a price that isn't the actual price of the item.
