| 342959 | 2005-04-09 00:10:00 | Some of you might recall Jeremy Jaynes, who was busted for promoting libido-enhancing pills, penile-lengthening drugs and various other products for the less-endowed, through bulk-email messages. Well, he's been shafted for 9 years (abcnews.go.com) by a judge. 9 years!? A bit harsh isn't it? I have heard of child-molesters, rapists and even murderers who got less. |

| 342961 | 2005-04-09 00:29:00 | More people get affected by a spammer though. The judge would've got spam no doubt as well. Reason enough for the higher penalty probably. | Jeremy (1197) | ||
| 342962 | 2005-04-09 00:35:00 | Good job. It'll teach him a lesson, not to do it again. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 342963 | 2005-04-09 00:44:00 | The guy was sending out 10 million spam emails per day and raking in $750,000 (USD) gross per month. The article refers to him as one of the top 10 world wide spammers. Also from that article it says that he was pushing pornography and not just junk products via spam. Looks like he was prosecuted for using fake identities and email return addresses, and not for the spamming itself. Removing him from abusing the system can only benefit everyone. He is probably being held up as an example to others from that long sentence, however his laywer's are appealing that sentence. |

| 342965 | 2005-04-09 00:53:00 | How much are you affected by spam? I may be a special case because I am not affected by spam at all, and most people I know exaggerate the effect of spam on them. These people get all pretentious and high-winded and moan about a waste of their precious time etc. I use mostly web-base email (Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail) and the spam filters let in a stray spam email maybe once a month. OK, maybe in a small company, ISP-email account with a poor spam filter, you may get inundated with this stuff. |

So people are actually buying all this crap after receiving these ridiculous spam emails . Maybe they're the real criminals and should have their bank accounts frozen to prevent encouraging idiots like this . 9 years! :lol: :lol: :lol: I bet he feels like doing this now :badpc: Exactly how we all feel when we see our inboxes flooded with such revolting junk . |

OK, maybe in a small company, ISP-email account with a poor spam filter, you may get inundated with this stuff. Well filters are getting better all the time. I think the main problem is that much of the spam email is offensive to alot of people (ie porn - and some of it particularly nasty porn too). Kids shouldn't be subject to this sort of stuff, older users shouldn't have to put up with the embarrassment, and we shouldn't have to put up with risk of accidently filtering out good emails. |
