2005-04-20 13:01:00 | I've been using Woosh for a month of so. I live about 2km from the antenna (or whatever it's called), in the Eastern Suburbs of Wellington. My connection is very good, my speed is as advertised. I subscribe to 1gb / month and I am aware that if we exceed that quota we will have our speed restricted. Should we find that we need to download more than that on a regular basis I will increase my plan - and still be cheaper that Xtra. I pay only $40 per month for this service which cost me $99 to set up. Woosh even sent me a free network cable so that our 2 PCs could connect simultaneously. Admittedly I did find Woosh's helpdesk to be below par, but I don't envisage having to phone them again. So I really don't understand what anyone has to whinge about. If you haven't paid enough for the service you require then put your hand in your pocket. Alternatively, vote with your feet!

2005-04-22 04:25:00 | Regarding the issue earlier in this thread when people were claiming they got between 56k and 64k with their dial up, that is RUBBISH!! For starters, you only have a 56K modem... so how cud it possibly go to 64k? its like saying you fill a 2L bottle of milk with 3L of milk... you cant do it....!! AND, you can't even get a 56k connection anyway.... the telecommunication companies dont allow it... you may get 50k at the MOST.... usually 48k or below if you have a 56k modem, depending on your phone line and other external factors. Now im not defending Woosh, in fact i found their service to be CRAP... with really bad latency issues and never reaching my speed... but i read earlier that someone said they miss advertised when they said the speed can reach up to 5 x the speed of dial up (250kbps) ... they are assuming dial up is 50K.... which is right because you cant get a faster connection then 50K on a 56K modem.... it is impossible...!!! I can beleive how SOME people may think 56K is possible, but i have no idea how others can think its possible to get 64K... it just makes me laugh!! ALSO sometimes connection speeds show the wrong information... this can be due to wrong drivers be installed or just an unknown computer issue... once it showed on my mates computer he was connection at 144K... which is a load of rubbish!!

2006-09-08 12:47:00 | I remember that wen i use woosh, sometimes speed fluctuates between 128 to 800kbps...plenty of things affect wireless broadband..it can be atmospheric changes etc...can be the pc system having some problems etc.... | Mr Wetzyl (362) | |
2006-09-08 20:43:00 | Sorry. That Woosh system is just crud even when compared to dialup. And I don't have to pay $200 for a dialup modem, do I? Here in Southland Woosh is a big thing. I have helped a few farmers set up their Woosh connections and while it is not as good as broadband (even with the sad state of many exchanges here) it is way better than dial-up. Some have not been able to get the full speed (1.6mbps) but its STILL way better than dial-up. I'm not a huge fan of Woosh myself but I'll repeat - if the choice is dial-up or Woosh then Woosh is better. There are caps on broadband too, and depending where you live, many people aren't able to receive full speed on broadband either. You may be unhappy with it, so go sign up for something else - but there are plenty of farmers here that are pleased to have something a bit faster available.

I have helped a few farmers set up their Woosh connections and while it is not as good as broadband (even with the sad state of many exchanges here) it is way better than dial-up..And of course while one may have got power to the barn, perhaps by generator, phone lines a rarer.... I consider my parents far north place an example. They were able to pay the thousands it cost to get power on site, but there was no way they were going to liven up a phone line!!!!!! Also anyone who bleats about atmospherics and such without going to the local demo yard and getting a satilite dish and using it to focus ones woosh ariel at the local woosh site really needs to start taking a bit of responsibility instead of expecting the world to be perfect just for them. |

2007-04-06 04:53:00 | yes it is, in my case i can get 115k but that is due to a incorrect driver. it still works though ah ...........NO.........your modem may be communicatin with the puter at 115k but you are NOT getting that as a 'true' connection speed.....if you really want to test out your speed use one of the many 'speed test' sites in nz.......you WONT be getting 115k I'll GUARANTEE IT...........
