342419 2005-04-07 12:13:00 Winston - I did a CNET Downloads search. There are a number to choose - here are two of them. The first one was the one I put on my wife's laptop.

342421 2005-04-07 12:45:00 Hi AMD1, It's more for Open Office than Word .

I may be missing something in the setup, but I haven't found OO's dictionary and thesaurus, in particular, as useful as Office's . I use quite a few technical terms and words not readily found in dictionaries . Of course building up a custom . dic is the answer but, it doesn't seem to work as well in OO (IBKAC perhaps) .

So if there is something I can use that is global, customisable, has a reasonable EN NZ or UK dictionary and a good thesaurus and to which I can import my current Word custom dic, I'd be very pleased . With that in mind, other users opinions are always a good start as to usefullnes and any gotchas .

I've downloaded WebWord for a look see . Any more would be appreciated .

The word "Global" worries me somewhat . Do you mean that the spell checker will suggest umlauts etc . Not to mention Danish, Swedish and German . Accents over letters can change the meaning . Goes off to find ASCII codes .

Possibly you may mean the the checker will be "Global" as you type and will work in any application .

On a lighter note:-

A new copper in Aucland was sent up Queen St by the Sergeant to patrol the area and was told to be back by 3:00 pm .

About 7:00 pm the cop got back to the station and got a bit of a rark up .

Apparently the cop managed to find a dead horse in Karangahape Road and it had been run over by a truck . The Sergeant said that it should have not taken so long to investigate the accident and wanted to know what happenend .

The copper had wanted to give the truck driver a ticket but he could not spell "Karangahape" so he had to drag the horse back to Queen St .

I could imagine this would take time . :-)

342422 2005-04-07 19:29:00 heh?

If you have an issue then state it,otherwise **** peckerhead. That was not necessary. If you can't follow the rules then don't post it. You and AMD1 have been heckling each other now in two different threads, but that was over the line. You are joining AMD1 in a 24 hour ban.

342423 2005-04-07 19:29:00 So I would think that the word "depentant" has a meaning in the dictionary you use.

Care to enlighten us as to what the meaning is?Taking personal digs at people for their spelling is un-necessary. You and Metla have been trading digs at each other in this thread and others now, and it has gotten too much. You have been banned for 24 hours. Take this time to consider the "keep it friendly or don't post it rules.

342425 2005-04-07 22:53:00 Hi Win*. Now look at what you have done. Gone and got poor old Metla banned again. If you had used your old dictionary none of this would have happened. Scouse (83)
342426 2005-04-07 23:13:00 Come back Metal - all is forgiven. And AMD1 seems to have suffered a ritual ban as well - for irony.

I have reinstalled Wordweb but notice it is Version 2.2 so I'll update it. My wife reminds me that we have a 2 Volume Shorter Oxford at home so why do I need online? She just doesn't get it. :nerd:

Wives don't like us to enjoy ourselves,it's the same with me and the Encyclopedia Britannica, laying there unused for years :D
Why you didn't use Scouse link is beyond me.The beauty of word web is that when the word get a bit tricky you can be directed to the web and an endless supply of dictionaries. Can't be beaten in my opinion.
