649681 2008-03-15 11:22:00 Hi everyone,
been having a lot of trouble with my dads old Toshiba Satellite laptop. Its about 5yrs old, was fine up until this morning, then started to hear a loud whizzing sound, sounded like a cooling fan going nuts, and within an hour of hearing this loud noise the laptop gave me a BSOD and tells me to run check disk. Having restarted the laptop, it goes smooth until the Windows XP loading stage, then gives me another BSOD. Have tried to restart a few more times after that, same old story. So whats wrong with the laptop? It's been in perfect condition since we purchased it all those years ago. Totally stumped.

Cheers,
V.K

649683 2008-03-15 11:34:00 Nope, all I can do is switch on, enter bios password, loading...BSOD. vk_dre (195)

649685 2008-04-06 01:20:00 Hey guys,
sorry for the massive delay in getting back to you about the BSOD.
Yeah, I just got fed up and bought a IDE to USB cable and transferred all the files I needed to my desktop comp, then reformatted the laptop hdd and reinstalled windows. Worked like a charm...again (haha been using this method for quite some time). Oh well, thanks to anyone who tried to help.

Cheers.

649686 2008-04-06 02:56:00 Rather a drastic solution, if you had noted the BSOD and told us we could have told you what fix to perform. pctek (84)
649687 2008-04-06 03:33:00 Yeah, well, I kind of figured out what was going on, windows was corrupted and just wouldn't boot, even safe mode was a no-no. Plus the IDE to USB method wasn't too much of a hassle, am a bit of a pro with that now :P I guess the only iffy thing was getting around the 'Ownership issues' of the files within windows, which were also eventually resolved. vk_dre (195)
