649576 2008-03-15 03:17:00 Hi Team,
Since I got a new computer six months ago my old XP computer hasn't been turned on. I went to give the old computer a run today and all that happens is a beeping noise and the monitor doesn't light up, there's nothing happening in the box apart from beeping.Does this sound like a dump run.:crying

Any :help: Please

649577 2008-03-15 03:25:00 It might be a power supply faliure.

Just dump it, I reckon

Make sure you recycle as many parts as possible though...

649578 2008-03-15 03:29:00 You haven't modified any hardware have you?

For example, taking out memory/hard drives, or unplugged then replugged mouse/keyboard/monitor?

649579 2008-03-15 03:32:00 Does the beeping have any pattern? Eg, two beeps then a pause? Jen (38)
649580 2008-03-15 04:29:00 Hows it been stored? When in the process of storing or retrieving some connection may have come loose. stormdragon (6013)
649581 2008-03-15 04:37:00 probably video card has come loose at some point, if the computer was moved, had the same problem with a really bendy (read sh!t) case, it was PCI and didn't have a clip to hold it in, so came almost completely out of the slot if you picked the case up the right (wrong?) way.

But it doesn't take much movement to cause problems

if it's not video card could be RAM

jeez......I'd never suggest that on such flimsy evidence.....ti could be loose ram/loose vid card for a start.........there might be nothing much at all wrong with it and even if there is why DUMP it there's probably a few dollars worth of parts in there not to mention perhaps a legal xp c.o.a........

dump it ?.........bad advice !

649584 2008-03-15 08:29:00 I had one on Friday doing continuous beeping.

I took the side off, massive piles of dustballs fell out, I removed and de-fluffed the RAM, cleared a path through the rest of the hair and god knows what, booted it back up - perfect.

649585 2008-03-17 08:49:00 Thanks all for the help. I ended up pulling every plug and bit that would move out:badpc: , put it back together again and away it went :clap Mick mick (6883)
