649419 2008-03-14 17:33:00 Get a paper clip and open it up. Or even a long needle will do (something thin)

Then poke it into the hole (if there is one), which is somewhere on the front of the cd.

See if it opens

649420 2008-03-14 17:41:00 Hey Speedy. Glad it's you here.
No such luck. I should have state I already tried that. There is no hole in front - just earphone jack. Any other ideas?

649421 2008-03-14 17:49:00 Nope cant think of anything else, besides opening the case .

And checking the power / IDE cable connected to it .

You could try turning the computer off, opening the case, pull the power off it, then put it back on .

Or it may need replacing .

649422 2008-03-14 17:59:00 Thanks. I was afraid of that. My guess is it's burned out, too. I'll try going inside... starrekin61 (10116)
649423 2008-03-14 20:06:00 have you tried right clicking on the icon in "My Computer" and selecting "Eject" beama (111)
649424 2008-03-14 20:17:00 Had a similar problem with one of My DVD drives - tried changing every thing, cables, PSU, On Changing an item the DVD drive worked for a few minutes or so, then played up again. Once I did get a DVD or CD in the drive it would open fine.

I did pull the old one apart and there was an obvious wear patch on one of the cogs - so I guess it was hitting that and not opening

The solution was I ended up replacing the Drive and its been working perfectly for about 3 weeks now.

649425 2008-03-14 20:25:00 They all have a hole. Its tiny, look carefully.

But its probably stuffed.

649426 2008-03-14 20:43:00 About 50mm in from bottom left edge of tray, stuffed full of dust. PaulD (232)
649427 2008-03-14 21:10:00 Just a small chance, have you tried opening it while the pc is booting up?

That's worked for me when certain applications were trying to access it, so stopped it from opening.
