649270 2008-03-14 02:42:00 Thanks to Michael Foreman and Jan Birkeland, we now have a slideshow revealing the guts of Telecom's Ponsonby exchange. If you want to see a snaking coil of cables to 7,371 broadband and 15,153 telephone connections, click here (pcworld.co.nz).

Said exchange has been infiltrated by Vodafone and Orcon. Read details of the first unbundled local loop plans here (blogs.pcworld.co.nz).

Why bother if it's going to be fiber to your street in a few years.

Haven't been inside this exchange since the early 1980s..

649275 2008-03-15 03:15:00 Uhuh.

I've been inside several. I notice there was a big sign in this saying Ihug. Maybe thats why this one doesn't look anything like your average exchange.

This is how they used to be, when they were actually maintained.
Now they are a screaming nightmare of building rubble, spaghetti cables, no labelling or minimal labelling.

Old PO employees would have been shot for the condition most of them are in now.

Or was this prettied up first for its pictures?

You can probably count on that being the case.

Chris, what's with the scatological theme?
