Why is it that internet explorer doesn't display some images? Nor does it play video...they both come up with a white box with red x in it, as shown in picture above...this happens for all sites...not just youtube. Does anyone have a solution?
OS is XP home.

Thanks

649060 2008-03-13 08:56:00 Is Macromedia/Adobe flash installed?

That could be one reason

649061 2008-03-13 09:10:00 it could be that a plug-in is missing:
like java or flash

XP home SP2?

IE 6 or 7? if 6 .. install the new Version

649062 2008-03-13 09:33:00 Well i've just done installed flash again and have done a flash player test and it's telling me i've got WIN 9,0,115,0 installed...It's IE7 running on XP home SP2.

Don't know if this helps, but i believe the problem started occuring after i installed microsoft silverlight....

649063 2008-03-13 10:30:00 try this:

delete your temp.Internertfiles
and further : IE--> Options-> Sec.Options.. there has to be an Option for showing Pictures

btw.. is any Personal Firewall installed?

can't find that option sorry
i have norton internet security 2008....before anyone tells me to get rid of nortons....i'm one of those people who have been using norton for a few years with no problems...so i'm in no rush to remove it.

649065 2008-03-13 19:54:00 Well, disable Nortons then, then try it.

Then you'll see if its causing the prob

649066 2008-03-13 20:25:00 one of he images that isn't showing up is an ad isn't it, do you perchance have adblocking, or a hosts file redirect for ads? Morgenmuffel (187)
649067 2008-03-14 04:05:00 check if images are blocked. go to tools, internet options, advanced, then go down to multimedia and check if they are all ticked
thats what happened to mine a while back

649068 2008-03-14 10:45:00 disabled norton, problem still persists.
How do i check for adblocking? i'm sure i've only got adblocking for firefox...
Also, it's not just those images that aren't showing....if i click to play any video on youtube, the space where the video screen usually is, shows the red x too (shown in picture)

In multimedia options....all are ticked except for cleartype and image download placeholders....
