649030 2008-03-13 02:30:00 An irritating little problem. Typically when I hit the 'start' button in Vista I am presented with a list of the most recently used programmes. My list is blank.

I have examined the settings under 'properties' when I right click on the space, but I'm damned if I can see why the list is missing, or how I can again switch it on.

Any clues...?

649031 2008-03-13 04:07:00 Do your settings look something like this?

Ref the second pic, make sure the number of recent programs to display is set to something more than 0.

649032 2008-03-14 03:02:00 Yes my settings windows are exactly the same. I had set the number of programmes to be displayed as '10'. Shiner (6676)
649033 2008-03-14 03:09:00 Hmmm....

Interesting one.

Um.

 Anyone else got any ideas??? Google it.

I wonder if Vista has dome something silly like deny permission to the start menu folder. You logged on as an administrator?

Edit - the link wainui posted should sort it.

649034 2008-03-14 03:09:00 have a look at This Article (forum.soft32.com) - sounds like the same problem - don't know if it will work or not - make sure you make a restore point before " Playing" with the Reg.

Also have a read Of this here (www.vistax64.com) as well . <<< Might be a safer more reliable choice

649035 2008-03-14 03:44:00 I followed this: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]

On the Right Pane .. Delete "NoRecentDocsMenu"

But "NoRecentDocsMenu" does not show under policies\explorer

At least I see that I am not alone with this fault. In my case, one day the recently used programmes were showing and on the next they were gone. As I say it's more irritating than an immediate problem - I guess one gets so used to seeing, and occasionally using, the shortcuts. Maybe I'll try a restore - if I have a suitable restore point.
