648912 2008-03-12 23:24:00 I have posted this question before but the problem still persists and since I have more information now, I'm hoping that someone can help me.

To summarise, I still have a very long delay between the appearance of the blue "Welcome" screen in Vista to the point at which the desktop actually loads.
Also I still cannot log onto any other account other than the main administrator account.

In my prior post on this topic I was unable to read an error message which appeared fleetingly, I now have had an opportunity to read it properly.
It appears after the blue "welcome" screen has faded to black and before the desktop loads.
The error message reads:

Interactive Logon process Initialization has Failed.
Please consult the event Log for more details.
OK

I have uploaded two screen snips of the event log viewer which I believe may be of relevance.

Many thanks for your help. :badpc: :help:

648913 2008-03-13 00:23:00 This is what the 1st pic means (support.microsoft.com)

As it says, if theres no ! beside the entry ignore it

The 2nd one may relate to the NIC/network. You may have to install SP1 (if it isnt installed yet) to see if that fixes it.

What kind of install was it?? Did you install Vista? Was it pre-installed?

Speedy Gonzales:
I installed my copy of Vista and I have not as yet received SP1

648917 2008-03-13 03:15:00 symiggy - just been rereading the last posting regarding this problem - please correct me if I'm wrong, But I cant seem to find an answer to this question

- BUT does the PC play up at any other times, like lock up, crash etc, or is it just the startup thats taking its time.

wainuitech: Correct, after many responses from you (for which I am indeed grateful) there never was an actual answer to the problem.
I just repeated the question today since I was finally able to read the error message that I occasionally get and thus give a bit more information about the problem and the screen snips to try and elucidate the solution.

The PC works fine does not lock or crash and seems to work normally after it finally boots.

In point of fact this excessive delay in booting is not really my main issue.

My real issue is that I have only one account that I can ever access.
If I create another (Standard or Admin account) in the user accounts dialogue, then the Account IS apparently created...but it does not appear in the 'Users" list in Windows Explorer and I cannot log onto it (even though it appears in the 'User accounts' dialogue box in Control panel > User Accounts)

The Error message that I get as above seems to indicate to me that the two issues are related.

648919 2008-03-13 03:58:00 Sorry for not getting back to that original post - got to work sometimes and lose track of posts - any way, been doing a bit of research and the problem with the Account is not uncommon - seems many people have had that same problem - but no actual solution (YET). Note: All the places I've looked have not had a solution.

Edited: That's actually good - it means the problem is not your PC directly in that case for the accounts. You are logged in your account as administrator ????

Maybe it will be addressed in SP1 - unfortunately I can't even reproduce the problem.

Just a thought: Disable User Account Control click start orb/ type in User then select from the search results and in the window click " turn User account control on or off" select off. - see what happens.

See if this works - click the start orb type in netplwiz open in search results, click ADD and follow the prompts through. See if it creates a new account for you.

648921 2008-03-13 04:19:00 I am logged on as an Administrator.
When I go to Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Accounts :

There are three accounts listed.
1] The account that normally loads when I log on....I have no choice in this...This account is what loads whether I like it or not.
The account has my name next to it and is an Administrator account.
2] The second account is called 'Administrator' and is an administrator account.
I get no opportunity of logging onto this account ever.
3] The last account is called 'Guest Account' and is turned off.
I have no need to use this account...but I could not if I wanted to.
