What do you think? |

| 344672 | 2005-04-14 01:18:00 | You have to be disturbed before you listen to the "head banger" music for it to have negative rffects on you I grew up with so did all my mates : out of the guys i went to school with only one has made a bad decision based on the music we listen to and that was to become a policeman, all the others are doing quite well thankyou, i have raised a young family brought up with good morals like i was regardless of the music i listen too |

| 344673 | 2005-04-14 01:27:00 | I think that people that are messed up in the head take action that sometimes has drastic consequences,and while I wouldn't give a copy of Linkin Park to a depressed person (though if they sought it out and enjoyed it then thats fine) music never killed anyone, No more then horrer movies makes serial killers. I also think you have a massive mis-understanding about metal, (of which the likes of linkin Park,papa roach,Korn, are not). You maybe refering to the commercial drivel that comes under the mis-nomer nu-metal.Definitly a negative force,but like I said,Music doesn't kill. The is no suicidel promotion in the lyrics of Judas Preist, Sabbath, Megadeth,Maiden, etc etc. Nor is the music "dumb"it would be 1000 times more intricite then the average pop ditty. They do from time to time cover subjects that exsist in the darkest places of the human soul, This is real life.War,death,depression,hate,religon,Politics and suicide.This is far different then suicide lyrics to make sales. Carrying on with the tone that the music is misunderstood, Take a band like Black Sabbath, labeled devil worshipers, They don't have any satanic songs, they have charecters in their songs who are definitly satanic,the general theme is that you trhow you lot in with them and you are damned for all time, Lord of this world,Nib,System of the Universe are all examples of this.Deal with the devil,bad things happen. Or lets see, Iron Maiden-Number of the beast, a song about some one whose wife died,he retreats to an island to seek solace,his dead wife comes to him in a dream,tells him to run,he awakes to find a pagen ceromeny has called forth Satan, He flees for his life as they chase him for a sacrifice,..... Thet were labelled as Devil worshipers.. AC/DC-Highway to hell,a song about spending 12 years on tour... Hmmm... Ive wandered, ill leave you with this,its a song about decending into madness,depression,despair, and then trying to fight back. The lyrics and subject are powerful,and when backed up with the metal music this song is capable of taking some people on a journey.Power. I hide myself inside the shadows of shame The silent symphonies were playing their game My body echoed to the dreams of my soul This god is something that I could not control Where can I run to now? For example, classical music is usually consumed by educated, "worldly" middle-class and older people, who are not prone to suicide anyway. Still, as someone infatuated with Bach (although I am not middle-class or old), I find it appealing. How Music Therapy can help with Depression, Suicidal Tendencies, and more...Read more here (www.the-bright-side.org) Music has the ability to unlock emotions and free us from social constraints Read about it here (www.depressionet.com.au) What the above two sites really point out is that if you give someone enough love, time, attention, care and interest, in these cases along with music, then they are less prone to depression, melancholia etc. That is an important way to treat suicidal tendencies in young people - they think that they are worthless and that living is a painful process because no one pays attention to them and their issues in life. They seek out and find the nearest esprit de corps, which is usually some sort of counter-culture like radical politics, cultic spiritualism, and bad music. Look through Google for the story behind Jeff Weise, that kid that shot up a school in Red Lake, Minnesota. Classic example. |
