I to downloaded Ubuntu 7.10 not long after it came out.
Although I have tried Kubuntu 7.10 which had the same problem and was downloaded about a week ago.

Have also tried 7.04 of both of these distros.

Also tried Xubuntu, PCLinuxOS (2007 and Gnome), Debian and ReactOS

649516 2008-03-15 01:59:00 Another possibility is if both the integrated graphics and your card are enabled. Linux may be defaulting to the integrated chipset. Have you tried disabling this? Noting you're not using it, you really don't need it and it'll only waste IRQ resources leaving it enabled.

Stormdragon, the end of that big long string is definitely the right place to enter it. If it has no effect, something else is causing your problem. Try the above and report back what happens.

PCI-e is set as the Video Device in the BIOS.

After the -- in the string I simply entered vga-792. Was there supposed to be any spaces or anything after the "--"?

Having reselected the integrated graphics in the bios and plugging monitor into the mobo port I'm able to boot linux correctly.

649518 2008-03-15 02:19:00 Having reselected the integrated graphics in the bios and plugging monitor into the mobo port I'm able to boot linux correctly. Exact same results as I am getting - Just retried the New download on another workshop PC, this time the board does not have intergrated Graphics, and wont show - no settings I change or command line does anything- the screen flashes after the command - then nothing - even the monitor power light goes from green to orange/brown. wainuitech (129)
649519 2008-03-15 02:28:00 Wainui my Ubuntu disk was burnt on the 20.10.07 so was right after the release.

Have decided to try downloading it again and will also try the 6.06 LTS version.

Will let you know how it goes.

Even after installing with integrated graphics then switching to pci-e it has the same problem.

649520 2008-03-15 02:32:00 I tried the Iso from the PC world mag DVD, my NEC comp has no onboard graphics and it fired up into Ubuntu 7.10 without any probs. I burnt the ISO using the burner from Wainui's sig. gary67 (56)

There's nothing wrong with the burnt iso images they work fine on the other AMD x64 machine in the house. Its just the one machine kicking up problems.

649522 2008-03-15 02:46:00 Well I'll be the first to admit I know naff all about Linux - if it was windows not a problem.

I mainly use Knoppix to rescue Windows data ( Never had a problem with the Live CD) - but quite willing to try other OS's - as long as they work, BUT if they wont even boot then right away thats a negative. <<< Strange that eh! :)

The hardware I'm using is nothing "Fancy" blimey a FX5200 Card is not exactly "high Tech" yet it does appear to be causing a problem with the Live CD's, and I have tried several different cards/PC's , ISO burners/ CD/DVD Writers ---- Awhhhh -- I dunno!

May as well stick to what I know best - Windows.

Don't blame you there, but its something that I've been told I should have a play with for my Computer Science course at Uni. I've had a play previously but that was Xubuntu and PCLinuxOS on an ancient machine and just though Live CD's. Even knoppix won't boot on the machine in question thats how stubborn its being!:badpc: :badpc:

Try running it on a 400MHz PII with 384MB of ram it will make your linux box look like a beast.

Thanks for the help.
Hopefully I can eventually figure out a solution and will post it here if/when I do.:illogical :illogical

Having reselected the integrated graphics in the bios and plugging monitor into the mobo port I'm able to boot linux correctly.Remove the '--' from the end of the string. '--' tells the kernel to ignore any further arguments, which is NOT what you want. Does this help?

Note that setting PCI-e as the default video device isn't always enough, sometimes you need to disable the integrated graphics as well.
