345690 2005-04-17 22:40:00 Being Vegan, and in CHCH, i'm a little limited.

Being unwilling and unable to spend up big on kai i'm even more limited, so it comes down to 5 options

The Hare Krishna place on Columbo Street with the name i don't have any chance of spelling right.... They are great for lunch!

Ziyas, next to Java in High Street ... Great suvalakis, and run by people with good attitude.

Mainstreet Cafe. Real nice but can be a bit pricey for my tight budget.

The DuxDeLux in Herford Street. Nice, but i only really go there 'cause of the bands and stuff.

My place, and a huge bowl of home made hommus! :D

345692 2005-04-18 02:32:00 well......I just made a visit to the recently opened Red Flame cafe (Wanganui), $9 for a breakfast and a coffee.

Coffee was killer, one of the 3 best I have had here and it was a mug, gotta love mugs of coffee instead of them damn stupid dinky little cups that are only good for wetting the tongue...

Food was a reasonable sized serving and top quality, nothing to complain about there, the menu was excellent and it will take a few visits before I have tasted everything that took my attention…they had separate breakfast, lunch and Thai menu’s……

Service was fast, lack of experience on the staff showed though, that I would imagine will take care of itself as time goes by. Cutlery was heavy and badly weighted, the fork was hard work. Shocking.

Bumped into Mrs Metla as I was leaving, seems she had bought me in some sandwiches for lunch.......

345695 2005-04-18 03:27:00 Boatshed Cafe in Rawene on the hokianga harbour. Filo wraps, creamy chicken pasta, pizzas fresh out of oven, masses of good salad better coffee than the Bay of Islands. Cakes and desserts with cream and sauces and jam all twirled around in a pattern with angelica AND a seat on the vernadah hangng over the water watch the boats and swimmers and see the odd fish go plop plop.

Can't smoke but.

345696 2005-04-18 05:44:00 I'll never visit the Nor Wester again . I ordered a vegetarian lunch thing, it cost $20, the entire meal fitted into 1/2 a capsucum pepper . it was gone in 2 minutes and it didn't touch the sides going down . I was soooo pissed off I have never been back .

There are heaps of small neat cafe's in chch, such as The Cup, Dotcom, Coffee Culture etc .

The Blue Rooster in Rangiora & The North Wester in Woodend are great . I dont know if they are still there . Its been over a Year since I was there .
