649254 2008-03-14 02:20:00 I was cleaning up a WinXP machne
used RegHealer and rebooted: the computer now requested login passwords for each of the users where it hadn't in the past.
- booted to safemode, admin required a password
- used Active Password Recovery to set the passwords to blank

no change still can't login to the machine.

any suggestions?

649255 2008-03-14 03:19:00 If Reghealer has made a backup before it runs then just restore the files. Pancake (6359)
649256 2008-03-14 03:22:00 RegHealer did make a reg backup, but
I can't login to the computer under any user,
thus can't do a system restore.

Thanks though.

649257 2008-03-14 03:30:00 Restart the computer and when it ask for a password just hit "enter' twice.See if that works.Other than that you may have to use your Repair/Restore disc. Pancake (6359)
649258 2008-03-14 03:32:00 Normally I'd use ERD Commander to change / blow the passwords - Can you reuse Active Password Recovery to reset the paswords - DONT leave them blank use something 741852 or what ever you want as temps. then change later.

You can also try using Ophcrack (http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/) --- Download link is under the title "Ophcrack Live CD 1.2.1" or top of page -- 455mb ISO - burn to CD , boot from it and it looks and tells you any Passwords for what ever accounts are on the PC. Used it once or twice.

649259 2008-03-14 03:47:00 Wainuitech - have you every tried resetting an admin password via a repair installation as described here? (I've never gotten around to it, but wonder if it does work?)

pubs.logicalexpressions.com I have tried it last year - but for the life of me I can't remember if it worked or not (great Help eh!) - its got me curious now- I do have a Doggy XP that I will try it on and let you know the outcome.

649261 2008-03-14 05:17:00 Try This (home.eunet.no)

I tried it on a laptop once, where someone forgot the password.

Just follow what it says on the screen

Select the default settings

649263 2008-03-14 23:26:00 I tried the iso version of Offline NT registry and password editor
with still no access.
I retried with Option 4 of "unlock" blank
still can't access "because of account restrictions"
Have backed up the hdd and resolved to using nofam's suggestions:
"resetting an admin password via a repair installation"
will let you know the results.
