649114 2008-03-13 20:54:00 I friend at work just asked me (I'm becoming famous with all the good answers of you Ubergeeks:) ) : her PC at home, XP, 512RAM, can't remember the chipset - as soon as she opens any streaming video site (on either Xplorer or FF), the CPU usage shoots up to 100% and stays there. If not a streaming video site - CPU usage sits at 5 %. No problem with fans, temperatures, etc. I thought that the problem = not enough RAM. Any-one got any other ideas?

649115 2008-03-13 20:58:00 What's the CPU, and which graphics drivers is she using? Flash video is rather processor-intensive.

If the system is idling at 5%, then it's either chock full of junk or the CPU really, really sucks. HijackThis log?

If I open several youtube tabs at once, cpu hits %100 on a 2ghz P4.Dont you hust love flash video.
Perhaps an ancient integrated video card doesnt help.

649118 2008-03-13 22:44:00 Update graphics drivers, update flash player, if your using IE put all the patches on. Try a different browser. Which process is it that's using 100% CPU? IE, or something like svchost.exe? wratterus (105)

649120 2008-03-13 22:47:00 Well, it really could use more RAM for a start, that would most likely help it. I find 512MB is a minimum for XP to run well now. wratterus (105)

Windows XP Professional Operating SystemThat CPU sucks, but it's certainly fast enough to play flash video. Definitely needs more ram, but that's not the cause of your CPU problems. As mentioned earlier, try upgrading your version of flash player. Wratterus makes a good point about the process thing - which process is eating the cpu time? Also, could we have a HijackThis log please?
