650452 2008-03-18 07:33:00 Hi all. I would like to clean up an old HDD so I can give it to a mate install. Can I reformat it by connecting it via USB and selecting format?
Thanks

650454 2008-03-18 07:53:00 Thanks Speedy. I'm not worried about the old data on the drive. My mate want to learn how to install a new HDD and then reinstall the OS and his other programs. I'll try and help him a bit..... blind leading the blind! (no disrespect to the blind).
Thanks again

650455 2008-03-18 07:56:00 You may have to go thru control panel / admin tools / computer management / disk management. If it doesnt appear in My computer.

To format it

650456 2008-03-18 08:23:00 Once again you're right , had to go in through control panel. Question..... its formating now as NTFS but the other drives are FAT32 is this ok or should it be formated as FAT32? 4Lowie (10869)

This depends on the size of the hard drive, the partitions (if any,) and the operating system(s) if more than one O/S. What are the other drives? Is there more than one partition on the previous physical hard drive?
