650434 2008-03-18 07:32:00 Hello members

Can someone tell me about the difficulties, advantages and disadvantages of VPS.
I am thinking about the possibility to setup fax to email receive. email and a small website. It is obviously cheaper then shared hosting.
I did ask my existing ISP if I could setup something like fax to email or the possibility of using faxmaker and they suggested to go VPS.
Would someone be able to help me a bit further?

Thanks

NTYour ISP is talking rubbish. A VPS is almost always more expensive than shared hosting, and cannot be used for fax-->email. As a VPS cannot use a modem (and therefore a fax line) it cannot receive incoming faxes.

:spam: If you are interested in purchasing a VPS, talk to either Dannz or myself - Dannz sells them and we both configure & maintain them, so we should be able to answer most questions you may have.

Bletch, that is what I wanted to hear, sort off!
Could you then tell me how else I could sort out a fax to email? Is there no other option then to use those paid fax to email services? I just like to send and receive on my machine. Sending is easy when the machine is on, receiving is not possible when the machine is turned off! So...
Any suggestions???

NTYou will either need to pay for a fax-->email service, or set up your own PC with a fax modem, phoneline, and some kind of email software. There is no free lunch to be had here.

Thanks for that!:)
Have then to check out the fax to email services offered and see the costs.
Why could a server where the own website is parked not offer such a service as an extra perk?:( or even with a fee?:2cents:

NTBecause the requirements for fax-->email services are vastly different from those required for website hosting. You will usually get one or more email accounts though.
