We think that the picture tube is shot. What do you guys reckon ? :help: Overdrive_5000 (4950)
348211 2005-04-24 06:45:00 With no disrespect - what I reckon is that you have done extremely well. It appears our TV that is 25 years old  Scouse (83)
348212 2005-04-24 06:46:00 Dig a hole in the backyard, invite round 20 or so helpers, make sure they bring ropes and logs to roll it on,manahanlde the set outside, drop it into the hole.

Let some future generation dig it up and marvel at the quaint technology.

Turn the colour down, if the pix is good in black & white the tube is ok. Doesn't sound likely to be that, though if the picture can't be seen or looks like a blurry mess, it may simply be a focus failure. That could be relatively cheap to fix.

If the pix was OK in in B&W it would most likely be a colour decoder fault. Purple & green means loss of B-Y (blue minus liminance) colour information. Usually easy to fix, but at that age you might not wish to invest the money. What brand and model is it? Model number should be on the back.

I don't think a life of 25 years is too bad, but you start expecting them to last for ever if they get that far, like a 99 year old great-grandmother. I have nearly 30 year old Toshiba that has a similar colour fault and all it needs is one IC. Problem is, they are obsolete and the only supplier (in the UK) wants the equivalent of $250 for one.

Goes to the tip!

Cheers
