347520 2005-04-23 00:27:00 I think having a Praying Mantis in your room is quite good, and tends to be funny.

The way they watch you walking around your room etc is a hard case.

The only thing that freaks me (when I was living in Tauranga) was cockroaches (they grow rather large over there - the roaches in Taranaki are a third to half the size).
One of my ex-flatmates woke up to one crawling over her face.
I woke up one night staying at a friends in Kaponga to a Weta crawling up my arm.... that freaked me... esp when I flicked it away (the lights were off, this was about 4am) and the damn thing came right back!!

I used to live in Kaponga and the roaches over there are humongous, so big that once I cornered one in the ancient house we were renting in a corridor with nowhere to scuttle to. I had my colt peacemaker BB gun (the steal shot variety) and I shot it from close range. The first shot just p#ssed it off and it took 2 more to finish it off. That and rat shooting at the dump were the major entertainment attractions of Kaponga.

347522 2005-04-23 02:15:00 Dear James,

Are you sure it's not the Y2K bug..or should that be Y2K05 bug???

Ewwwwwwww and I know all about cockroaches, you'd think I'd be used to them in Tauranga, but, with a few "little helpers" I seldom see them inside now. But they did make me overcome my aversion to spiders, spiders are almost cute compared with roaches!!

347523 2005-04-23 02:56:00 Well if its bugs living in the warm areas of your room, its usually cockroaches.

They love the warm areas off any house, especially electronics/appliances

Nothing like spraying that BV2 insecticide and watching them die in seconds...

only that stuff pongs REAL BAD.

I have vaccumed my room this morning. Not just a simple vacuum, I've lift up the bed to give the carpet a nice suck-up as well as shifted the cupboard to see any crawlies making nest behind it. During the whole process, I did not encounter any bugs or worms. However, I did not open up the computer case, as some of you have suggested. Thanks for the reply, people. :)

347529 2005-04-23 09:30:00 My bet is on it being an earwig....
I was thinking that it would be more of a slug - they're the only worm-like things that have antennae. No idea how that would've got in there, but on a few occasions I've had small spiders make themselves at home, even a gecko! I just toss them outside (although for geckos you have to pounce on them like Steve Irwin pounces on crocodiles, so that they don't turn around and bite you!).
