649994 2008-03-17 00:35:00 I have played around by reading my Yahoo web based mail in Outlook Express using a 3rd party program called "YPOPS (email.about.com)". Not sure if it would work for hotmail, but there may be other add ons or substitutes (e.g. pop peeper (www.snapfiles.com) notification program) that may achieve what you want... kahawai chaser (3545)
649995 2008-03-17 03:26:00 Hotmail was originally available with WebDAV to all, but the service was revoked from free users in 2004 .

However, it is now possible to access a Hotmail account outside of an internet browser, though only on the Microsoft Windows platform .

One may also access e-mail messages and contacts in any Hotmail account using Microsoft Office Outlook Connector for free, though access of calendar, tasks and notes requires a premium subscription .

Mozilla Thunderbird can be used to access Hotmail accounts (as well as other web-based e-mail) in combination with the WebMail extension .

649996 2008-03-18 21:52:00 Thanks everyone. Very helpful.

Speedy: I did as you said but it came back, "tough titties."

Wratterus: Thanks for that. I installed Windows Live Messenger and it seems to work fine. It automatically imported everything from OE and Hotmail which is great. All I need do is remove the KOL reference. Not certain how to do that but I'll have a look.:clap

:thanks for all your suggestions. Most appreciated. Always impressed by the help available from you guys!

649997 2008-03-19 09:23:00 There is now a web-mail add-on for Mozilla Thunderbird which works well with Mail.com

It can also work with Hotmail according to

649998 2008-03-20 01:34:00 Won't work, cause MS are w*nkers and for some reason don't allow you to do this.

Windows Live Mail (get.live.com)will work, and is probably the easiest way to go.

Otherwise install Windows Live Messenger, and use that.

OR dump your @hotmail address and get a @gmail (or some other free email) address. Gmail is far preferable, although I'm sure you won't want to change your address, weigh up the options.
One option
You can always have a gmail account where the existing emails get forwarded to. The reply address would then have to be the existing.
As a possibility.
