649721 2008-03-16 02:42:00 Yes i will try the other PSU tomorrow.

P4 3.2
2Gb Ram
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe board

I have a spare 3.02 CPU I can also try and also another spare Gigabyte Motherboard

It just might be a time consuming exercise eliminating the problem one thing at a time:-(

649722 2008-03-16 03:22:00 It just might be a time consuming exercise eliminating the problem one thing at a time Thats how you do it though - eliminate 1 thing at a time - sooner or later you will find what doesn't work.

No Need to actually install the MB in a Case, simply have a PSU and Monitor /MB/CPU/RAM/KB & Mouse on the Bench - shouldn't take any longer Than 15 -20 Minutes.

Just remember all you are trying to do is locate the faulty part, don't need to actually get into windows all you need is the POST and BIOS - then you will know what needs replacing and where to move on from there.

649723 2008-03-16 20:24:00 Removed Ram, startup produced no post beeps at all. Not looking good for the motherboard.

nothing connected, no mouse, keyboard, monitor, no ram. no beeps.

649724 2008-03-16 20:43:00 Do any fans try and start up, even for a second? If they do it could be the CPU. FoxyMX (5)
649725 2008-03-16 22:07:00 Yes, all the fans work Bantu (52)
649726 2008-03-17 06:15:00 Is there a yellow power light where the green on light should be? Try to clean your pc, it may be filled with dust and overheated, seeing that you have a big PSU (and by extension hot components.) SPARTAN 860 (2618)

Yes, Spartan, Yellow when it should be green and running sweet. No dust, it gets a regular cleanout. A Thermaltake Armor case. plenty of fans and space for the dust to go though.

649728 2008-03-17 08:12:00 In my experience, yellow lights means component not plugged in properly (this is the best situation) or something is dead(not so good). Try to see if all your components are plugged in properly, maybe you GPU is the cpu is not totally plugged in. Once, my old pc had a geforce 6600 which wasn't properly installed, and I had a yellow/amber light. Your pc may have worked before, but maybe during one of your cleaning sessions one of your components got a little moved, and heat makes things expand, so maybe it popped out a little when you left it to heat up :P SPARTAN 860 (2618)
649729 2008-03-19 02:08:00 Problem solved. Spent a couple of hours trying things then decided on a better alternative to do with my time. Replaced, motherboard, cpu, memory and display card.
Should be a better toy altogether now I hope.
