OK, I'm 99% sure it's a focus failure. This is almost always very easy and cheap to fix, but it's the overall economics that decide what you do next. Even though it is probably viable to repair, you might be better off with a new set. As others have pointed out, they are cheap as chips now.

348223 2005-04-25 01:21:00 Thanks for you help Billy T much appreciated  Overdrive_5000 (4950)
348224 2005-04-25 12:29:00 There is an obvious trend going here. One is the young and restless whereby they ask Overdrive to replace his old TV. While another side is that Billy T was trying to help Overdrive to fix his TV. Such behaviour quality possessed by Billy are hard to come by. The younger generations are always thinking of getting new products, while the older generation are much more appreciative of their current assets and will keep using it until it reaches its last breath. Keep up the true spirit, Billy T!

Cheers :)

There's nothing quite like a period on life support for yourself or loved one to change that mindset plod. That or a third mortgage.

Sometimes it is not necessarily the best decision to discard the old in favour of the new. Some considered thought can be useful.

348227 2005-04-25 13:10:00 Here's my tuppence...

Have you recently placed any speakers next to the TV, or anything else with a magnetic field? Or, have you left the TV on standby for any length of time?

Either may make the screen purple/green, but it doesn't usually make it 'blurry'.

One way to test is to turn it off on the TV itself (not the remote), unplug it from the wall for say 30 mins, then plug in again.

If not it was worth a crack. We still have a circa 1982 22" Philips console TV (no remote) that works perfectly in our rumpus room.
