347947 2005-04-23 11:22:00 Can anyone give me a comparison between lets say 1.6ghz certrino processor and peentium 4 processor.
I do realise for it to be called certrino it does have to have a couple of things, the mobile processor, wifi, and i guess the mb,not sure
Is this the future of intels desktops?

347948 2005-04-23 11:33:00 These questions always bring out some wild claims without any reference, I have found all centrino notebooks to be infuriating to use unless acompanied by 512mb of ram, espeically any under 1 . 8ghz .

In general tasks they seem to keep pace with desktop cpu's but fall on their backside when it comes to floating point calculations, due I believe to how long it takes to backtrack over a failed branch calculation .

Haven't tried any video editing on one, but then they aren't designed for that sort of task and I wouldn't expect them to be great at it .

I have read that the technology will be used in next generation cpu's,but I would say they pick and choose the best elements from their entire product range when developing a new line, which won't make much difference anyhow seeing as AMD spank em sideways .

Battery life on a centrino laptop is stunning,last one i used was an Asus 6500ne,beautiful unit,widescreen,plenty of grunt,dual layer dvd writer . . . . . .

I have had a Fujitsu P5020 Lifebook since late 2003:
. lifebook . com . au/products/view_product . php?id=27&prod_categ=1" target="_blank">www . lifebook . com . au

It is a Centrino notebook with 256Mb RAM, WinXP Pro/Xandros, and as noted elsewhere in this thread it has an awesome battery life . Despite the paltry amount of RAM, I have had no problems with it, and have never been "infuriated" . . . I use it daily for backups from the main PC, and it goes with me when I travel (which is frequently) . I use it for web, word processing, DVD play etc . It dual boots with Xandros v3, and works fine there as well . V3 detected the wireless adapter (unlike v2 where there was no driver), so everything works under Linux . It is also a fraction of the weight of the Toshiba brick I used to carry .

So I cannot compare it as you request, but just to say I am a very happy camper, and the little Fujitsu has the "wow" factor as well - people always go "wow" when they first see it, grab at it and want to have a play - something that doesn't happen to me any more . . .

Of all the computer gear I have ever owned, this is the best - nearly rivalled by the family Shuttle for satisfaction, but not quite . . . I will have another Centrino when it is time to move on .

347953 2005-04-23 23:43:00 Then i suggest you purchase an extra 256mb of ram for that wee beasty, it gives em far longer legs.

Still,if you know no better......
