346769 2005-04-20 04:12:00 It would be really really funny if only it were true.

Can someone who is stupid enough not to recognise the loopback (127.0.0.1) be capable of remotely re-formatting a hard-drive (which requires some knowledge of using a remote access tool such as telnet, ssh etc)? It didn't seem like the idiot was using a virus because it was real-time.

I smell urban myth here.

I read it as stupidity. It could have just been a script kiddie situation where he just used an automated tool he picked up off some website, and didnt know what he was talking about.

You sure Windows allow these sorts of operations through the loopback? I'm amazed if it did. Try running a telnet or ftp or ssh session through the loopback. I'm curious to know.

346772 2005-04-20 05:14:00 It'd get errors trying to remove files that were in use.

I'll try it tonight.
