1424817 2016-08-24 00:19:00 My son has come to me, a little late I feel, asking to have his W7 upgraded to W10. Is there anywhere or any how I can get the free copy or has MS closed that facility? Bryan (147)

there were reports of the free upgrade still working after the deadline, not sure if that is still the case.

try it & see , download the older ISO & use the Win7 install key : might have to do a clean install ?

1424819 2016-08-24 01:21:00 Not sure about doing an inplace upgrade but you can certainly still do a fresh install of Windows 10, either by formatting the existing HDD or installing a new one, and it will still activate using the Windows 7 key you should have already.
Just go through the whole installation of Windows 10 skipping the entering of the product key, and once the install is complete then go and activate it using the Windows 7 key.
Just be sure you install the version of Windows 10 (Home or Pro) to match the Windows 7 license you have.

1424820 2016-08-24 02:59:00 As of mid day today its still working - Just did one from W7 to W10.

As mentioned above, wiped drive clean installed Windows 10 Home, when it came to enter Product key, used the W7 key, accepted / installed, a few minutes after it finished, checked and it had activated fine. Never had W10 anywhere near it previously. They wanted W10 but if it didn't work they would be quite happy to have me reinstall W7.
