1424645 2016-08-19 02:18:00 Hi All
I have bought a new Toshiba Laptop which I am expecting to stay alive as long as I do:).

I want to copy everything from Old to New in such a way as to be able to read it without any rigmarole. It has 1TB drive that could be partitioned to put it in. The Old has C & D & I wonder if I need both or not

Is there going to be any problems copying. Thanks. PJ

1424646 2016-08-19 03:24:00 I wouldnt partition the drive up, just make a fold called "old files" & dump it all in there.

Copy from old HD is a commonly done sort of thing, but....
Win will be do its best to make this harder . Some of the folders you may want will be hidden (eg sometimes mail is in hidden folders).

I use a file manger (Total Commander, set it to see all files) , as it give me total control & meaningfull pauses/messages when it has a copy issue (it wont just stop & quit )
or unstoppable copier is very good at this.
Dump everything into the new laptop, then sort it out later & del what you dont want.

copy everything except, Windows , recycle bin , & other system folders . Get in on the new laptop, then sort it out & move it around & del the rubbish.
Better to copy too much than not enough.

1424648 2016-08-19 11:09:00 PJ - have you ever made contact with SeniorNet Wanganui? Are you mobile? I'm sure they could offer you some help and even if you can't get to the clubrooms they may be able to point you to a member close to where you are. How to Modify the Send To Menu
By default, the Send To menu contains floppy disk drives, mail and fax recipients, and your Briefcase. To add a destination to the Send To menu, add a shortcut to the Windows\SendTo folder. To do so, follow these steps:

Click the Start button, and then click Run.
Type "sendto" (without quotation marks) in the Open box, and then click OK.
Add a shortcut using either of the following methods:
Dragging a new shortcut to the folder:

Use the right mouse button to drag a destination to the SendTo folder, and then click Create Shortcut Here on the menu that appears.
Creating a new shortcut with the Create Shortcut Wizard:
On the File menu, point to New, and then click Shortcut.
Follow the instructions in the Create Shortcut Wizard.
