1424015 2016-08-03 09:59:00 This HP note book has been unlike most pcs' and hasn't had the MS W10 update pop-up appearing on the task-bar.

Downloaded W10 Tuesday last week, but it still left W8.1 front screen in place.

At teatime tonight it downloaded a whopping update, took about an hour.

The weather app was in Chinese, but that was easily resolved by typing "change to English" in the search box provided. We in the SI need to know what's going to hit us.

A pop-up as attached screen shot shows, needs rectifying if I knew what it is all about.

W10 is bl**dy slow after W8.1 and the machine has 8gig memory.

1424017 2016-08-03 11:00:00 Thanks Speedy, don't think I will be doing that.

Got a month to revert back to 8.1, and I don't like w10 on eggshell's desktop either.

Been "restarting" and things are different each time, that was a huge update at tea time, so it probably needs time to adjust, rofl.

Anyway Bill should know what's going on inside the workings of this pc.

Cheers,

ps. night, we are both going to sleep on it.

1424018 2016-08-03 11:25:00 No probs well I know a lot of people have had probs after upgrading from 7 or 8 to 10. So dont count on it behaving lol Speedy Gonzales (78)
1424019 2016-08-04 03:05:00 OK Speedy. Others on here think it's the bees' knees.

Mainly use the EQC replacement lappy after tea in the lounge, mainly Family History checking.

1424020 2016-08-04 03:15:00 I'm only using Win10 because I paid for Start10 lol. So I get a menu. Looks the same as Win 7 or 8 to me now.

And may as well use it now since I had Win8 before and upgraded / did a clean install with its key

1424021 2016-08-04 03:17:00 No probs well I know a lot of people have had probs after upgrading from 7 or 8 to 10. So dont count on it behaving lol That's 100% correct, 99% of all W10 problems I've dealt with are from computers that had a previous OS and upgraded.

Wipe the drives install Fresh and they are notably faster, and over all better performance. Got a small laptop here now, had W7 on it, Celeron with 2GB memory.

W7 --what a PIG :yuck:, put W10 on fresh, totally different computer.

1424022 2016-08-05 00:03:00 Wai my post 5 and I don't use the lappy much, will get the pro. who we bought it from to take it back to w8.1 (quite enjoyed this ver.) and do as Speedy recommends.

Games have gone to the pack as well.

Can't expect much from a company that can give a product away free, rofl.

Used to do Tax Returns for about 10 people for free and several who had a good refund would give me an ex Gratia amount. Under the table we used to call it, rofl.

1424023 2016-08-05 05:54:00 Of course if you made a system image before you updated to W10 you could then make an image of W10. This would enable you to switch from one to the other as and when you feel like it. Move your Documents, Roaming, and pictures to another partition. This way all your data will be available by whatever OS is currently installed. I have most of my work on Google drive. This has the added advantage of being available to me on any computer. mzee (3324)
1424024 2016-08-05 09:57:00 mzee, yes we may just do that, have a bit of time to do it in.

Downloaded the W10 games tonight and solitaire is pretty quick and does the movements for you. Shame they didn't put that effort into W10.
