1421468 2016-06-04 06:18:00 I received four calls today from an american-ish sounding woman. It was clearly a recorded message, and the guts of it was that the recipient had to call back on the number supplied asap or legal action would be commenced. I picked up on the first call, and promptly hung up, but after working outside for some hours I came back inside to find a further three identical calls on our answerphone.

Because there was no reason given for the threat of legal action, I am assuming that calling back would cost the recipient a heap of dollars, because it seems unlikely that the outgoing call is going to be picked up, and a real person start delivering the hook.

I'd be interested to hear if anybody else has had this today.

Cheers

Heaven only knows...............I never listen long enough to find out!

I guess that for some poor sods the very thought of lawyers is enough to induce incontinence and a cold sweat, and that is precisely what these leeches prey upon, especially the elderly.

Mrs T thinks I'm rude when I wipe out these callers, but then she is too nice [read: gullible], so who knows what she might have fallen for if I hadn't drummed into her the need to get a second opinion!

Cheers

1421472 2016-06-15 09:47:00 I've had a couple of episodes of a different call, where I've believed they were searching for further info to complete an attempt at identity theft.

In each case it was an Indian accent, claiming to be calling from Auckland University, and prying repeatedly into my personal details and current employment situation.
In each case I've killed the call. I'm loooong finished with uni, and they have no need for any further info about me.

What I suspect is that someone has managed to hack into a uni database, and they're now trying to complete the scavenge of data to the degree where they can do a credible identity theft.

Beware. Nobody needs to know too much about you.

1421473 2016-06-15 11:16:00 Yes! Earlier today I had call from "Unidentifed" caller. I always answer the phone with a polite my name and hello greeting. Quite often the calls are from people who have an an unlisted number. This was different, there was some one talking, a female voice but in an American accent, wanting to know if I'd had computer problem recently. I just said no and hung up, (can't be bothered with those crank calls anyway). They rang me back! Talked a lot of S&$@t, and I said b off! Left the phone off the hook for a very long time!

So far haven't heard back from them, and, if I do, I'll give them so much crap they won't know what to do with, haha.!

1421474 2016-06-15 21:18:00 I operate on Need To Know.

Never mind scammers, anyone who starts asking questions about us that, really, do they need to know?

Like WINZ, when husband signed up for his pension, the lady started to ask him about what medical issues he had. I told her she didn't Need To Know that.

Sales people ring up and then start asking, do you own the house, whats your income etc.
Do they Need To Know, just to sell you some crap?
No.
