1422026 2016-06-22 06:15:00 Yeah! :devil Lectran :devil - I remember that!

All it was was a spark gap that forced the coil to raise the voltage up (over time) to send a "hotter" spark - the phrase makes me wrinkle as we all know that 'hotter' spark is not the operative here, but higher voltage is the answer .

If we can delay the time of the ultimate discharge from the collapsing filed in the ignition coil for a bit, then the voltage will be forced to climb higher than original design .

But we all know that we don't get something for nothing - right? :waughh:

Raising the output voltage on an ignition coil will act like the proverbial garden hose (NZ= flexible tubular device that carries water to your garden from a faucet)

Back to my example of the garden hose . . . . . . . . . . .

Since water (in your hose, not your ignition coil) will always "test" the easiest place to escape the pressure it's under, and given if you have a Gazillion Googles (NZ= 'GG') of pressure from the pump, and the GG pressure is allowed out the end of the hose - quantity not stated for simplification - then the pressure and flow could be manageable for the hose .

But now, let's put a valve in the form of a hose nozzle (NZ= a thumb) on the end of our theoretical hose and slowly close it off until just a smidgen of water comes out the end and the pressure builds up in the hose . . . . . . until . . . . . until something pops (NZ= explodes) .

This is somewhat like the spark gap device called the Lectran . It makes the pressure go up (electrically) by making the spark jump a much larger gap than it would normally encounter in a standard ignition system until some dielectric shield or wire coating inside the coil blows a hole in itself and something goes 'pop' again, only this time electrically with no thumb used .

1422027 2016-06-22 07:40:00 I think the technology and charging pattern of a advanced solar panel can greatly enhance/maintain the charge status of the car's battery . According to a comment ( . instructables . com/id/How-to-charge-a-12-volt-battery-using-Solar-Power-1/" target="_blank">www . instructables . com) (instructables article) Some panels can periodically output a increased charge (i . e . shock charge) to prevent sulphation (and I think prevent chemical reversal . . . to help maintain equilibrium) . So a solar panel (it's controller) may not always be in trickle mode . . . .
.
sounds like edge effect . can' recall correct name but its when a cloud passes and the light refracts on the edge of the cloud giving a temporary brighter light . the solar output goes up . its something you have to watch as voltage may go higher than the controllers spec .
however unless you have a big panel (and no controller) the battery will drag the voltage down so it has absolutely no effect .
thats the problem of not having a good controller, you can't make use of the higher voltage and it won't flow power to the battery when panel voltage drops below battery voltage .

if sulphation is your thing you can add on desulphators .

1422028 2016-06-22 23:42:00 (NZ= flexible tubular device that carries water to your garden from a faucet)

.

In NZ, faucet was a pretty 80's Charlies Angel that lucky boys had a poster of on their wall
we have 'taps' :)

1422029 2016-06-23 00:12:00 discharge from the collapsing filed in the ignition coil

and in NZ, ignition coils have a "magnetic field" :)

1422032 2016-06-23 02:23:00 I googled Lectran and found many explanations of how it's snake oil and of no value. Most pretty much said the same thing Joe did and one pointed out you could achieve the same affect by increasing your spark gap.

It's like the old adage, you don't get something for nothing.

maybee its a US English spellchucker .
US English being less anal & allowing spelling without the stupid unneeded extra silent letters in UK Eng ?

color. Yep , I typed it. Left out the u on porpoise . Living dangerously
:)

now about my car battery...... :punk

I guess just like most car addons & potions that make all sorts of claims . I used to have one of those tune up spark plugs that had a glass outer to allow you to look at the color of the burn and tune depending on the color. Seemed like a good idea to me, didnt live up to expectations

Possibly the only car potion that works is the one for small radiator holes , my car used to live on that stuff , way back in the day . Then again , eggs do the same thing (is it the white or yellow?) . You see all sorts of claims for oil & gas potions.
Now that we drive cars that actually last, there seems less need for snake oil to "fix" worn out engines.

1422035 2016-06-23 07:56:00 It occurs to me "Snake Oil" pedlars must really hate internet search engines.

And yet people still fall for this stuff.
