1424415 2016-08-17 06:42:00 Thanks for the kind offer CyaBro and I’m sorry it has taken so long to reply, but I spent all day yesterday driving to Raglan and back to visit another old mate on the way out with Parkinson’s and Bladder Cancer . :groan:

Anyway, returning to the question at hand, the deceased mate’s widow is bringing a heap of his stuff around tomorrow for me to sort through . Great . And, she tells me she thinks she has found the box the iPad came in, but it says “Only for distribution in Australia” or something to that effect . He travelled extensively, including Australia and Europe, so who knows where it originated .

However, that doesn’t alter the fact that it worked fine up to his death and indeed post his death, but for some reason, only known to Apple, THEY have locked it of their own accord .

Imagine if you will, Toyota doing the same thing and second guessing your Toyota had been stolen because it hadn’t been used for ages so they locked the damn thing citing Security . They’d be out of business so fast you wouldn’t see their backsides for dust and small stones .

Well, that’s reorganised the blood pressure so I’ll be back when I’ve perused tomorrows documents etc . :D

1424416 2016-08-22 04:32:00 Ok, I’ve made some progress with this little problem . :banana

The Son came for the weekend and he has had Apple stuff for years .

I’m not sure what he did but he used his iPhone to do something and an E-Mail was sent to the deceased mate’s desktop computer giving instructions on resetting the password .

(As it happened I have said computer sitting on my desk with a problem of its own which I’ll cover in a separate thread . )

Anyway, I managed to get into his Mail and there was an E-Mail with instructions for resetting the password in amongst over two years of spam .

So, that done and with a new Password, the Son tried to download a couple of FREE apps which he thought would be useful, but alas, even FREE apps require Credit Card details it seems when dealing with Apple .

Well I don’t know the registered Credit Card details and suspect none would still be active, so that’s another issue .

Apple are not endearing themselves to me at all . :D

1424417 2016-08-22 06:08:00 Great!

You can log into the Apple ID account, via iTunes, and turn off the credit card, as you say most likely the one that is on the account has expired.
You don't need a credit card on file to download free apps.

1424418 2016-08-22 09:03:00 Thanks Bro, I’ll work on it.

The number it wanted was the three figured Card Security Code number on the back of card, usually beside the Signature.

Maybe the new password prompted the need for the re-entry of the code?

You know I’m bloody sure the old mate is sitting on a fluffy white cloud with a G&T pissing himself with laughter at the trouble he’s caused me. :D

1424419 2016-08-22 11:08:00 Good to hear you are making progress. Yep, he'll be highly amused at your problems!!

On a more serious note, we all should help prepare for the inevitable and make sure our passwords/account info etc are able to be recovered by those left behind.

Must do that before I go in for my hip op!!!!!
