2008-03-19 07:45:00 | Any ideas on where to purchase a new laptop without having to pay for MS Windows in NZ? Has to be a fully featured desktop replacement (i.e. not ASUS eee). Thanks

2008-03-19 08:18:00 | I am wanting to avoid paying for MS Windows since I want Linux installed (in this case paying for Windows is like a Microsoft tax). I am not wanting to avoid paying for something that I am legally required to pay for. | johnd (85) | |
2008-03-19 08:21:00 | You would probably want to contact a custom PC builder or small business PC sales outfit as all the likes of Dick Smith and Noel Leemings are required by MS to sell their PCs and laptops with Vista or XP installed (OEM) - at least that is my understanding. | vitalstatistix (9182) | |
2008-03-19 08:26:00 | Dell will sell you laptops with Ubuntu on them - just buy that, wipe it, and put whatever OS you like on it. Alternatively ask them for a rebate for the windows component of the purchase price - dunno about the NZ one, but the Canadian branch of Dell refunds CA $88 for it. | Erayd (23) | |

2008-03-19 08:39:00 | Dell is reliable, been using them for ages, never had any problems. Only thing better is to build them yourself. And most people don't have the time. | SPARTAN 860 (2618) | |
