650668 2008-03-19 00:12:00 This is what I'm looking at:

Seagate Barracuda ST3500320AS Hard Disk Drive, 500GB, 7200rpm, 32768KB Cache, SATA-2 - from Ascent .

What, if anything should I worry about with the SATA-2? Are there special requirements?

My old C drive is a Maxtor . My secondary internal drive is (according to Belarc) is ST320082 6AS SCSI Disk Device (200 . 05 GB) .

650669 2008-03-19 00:59:00 Obviously your motherboard needs to have sata ports on it. Other than that, good choice. pctek (84)
650670 2008-03-19 01:20:00 Yes, but they are used with at least one DVD burner. Not sure what the other is used by.... Maybe the other secondary HD. So maybe not a good choice? R.M. (561)
650671 2008-03-19 01:26:00 Err... How do I find out what is in my 2 SATA connections (I know there are two - I've seen them, but can't remember what is in the first one). :help:

We (that is, Himself did the labour, while I watched anxiously!) recently put a SATA DVD burner in the second one.

650672 2008-03-19 01:33:00 Your 200G disk that shows as "SCSI" will be the other SATA PaulD (232)
650673 2008-03-19 02:23:00 Ahha - thought that might be the case . . .

So - what are my options for a new HDD? Not the SATA option I put before I suppose?

What about this?
Seagate Barracuda ST3500630A Hard Disk Drive, 500GB, 7200rpm, 16384KB Cache, ATA-6/100 - more expensive, of course .

650674 2008-03-19 02:26:00 R.M. take a look at the E.S. models of Seagate, they are supposed to be business HDD's as opposed to home user ones, hopefully they last longer and more or less the same price.

I have two ES models now but not had them long enough to know if they are better or not.

650675 2008-03-19 02:41:00 Thanks for your reply. However, I'm not sure what you mean by E.S. model of Seagate? :crying

I'm looking on Ascent's site (that's where I usually buy my bits & pieces).

650676 2008-03-19 02:45:00 Ah - I see what E.S. means now - External storage. But I think I really need to replace my drive with the OS on it. I can't do that with an external, can I?:help: R.M. (561)
650677 2008-03-19 03:39:00 Err... How do I find out what is in my 2 SATA connections (I know there are two - I've seen them, but can't remember what is in the first one). :help:

Take the side off the case.
Take a look what drives you have and ports are free.

Then you'll know what can fit. Maybe you don't need so many drives if you are buying a big one anyway?
Use an imaging program to image over the old install.
