650504 2008-03-18 10:22:00 I was just posting on a forum, and the computer just started stuffing up.

Firstly, firefox wouldn't work, every button in the browser wouldn't do its required function, for example, entering a URL in the bar then pressing the green arrow/enter wouldn't do anything, bookmarks wouldn't go where required, it's just like I clicked away from it.

So I restarted and the problem was still there.

I had a go at using firefox safe mode, that didn't work, all that accomplished was loosing all my bookmarks and saved passwords.

I then tried doing a virus scan, nothing out of the ordinary.

I restarted and went into safe mode, and tried uninstalling stuff, and that wouldn't work, can't access the uninstall manager or something while in safe mode.

So then I booted normally, and still wouldn't work, so I tried to advise friends via MSN and IRC, and it wouldn't connect, so it seems my network connections are also stuffed.

I am on safe mode with networking enabled while posting this, this was the only way firefox and network connections would work.

I have fixed the frozen taskbar at the bottom, but whenever I boot normally, and double click something, I get the little hourglass cursor by itself, the "not responding" cursor.

Even opening a folder, or clicking Start.

Need help, I am sick of going on the internet on safe mode. Please, quick.

650505 2008-03-18 10:47:00 You need to do a hijackthis scan and post the log back here so we can see whats happening.

Try and run HJT in normal bootup if it's possible

Can you get task manager?

ctrl alt delete

If you can - see if there's anything using lots of cpu

if there is, click on it to highlight and "end task"

see if you can open a folder or something then

650506 2008-03-18 10:56:00 Have you tried "Last Known Good Configuration"

F8 when booting.

Or System restore, if you have it on to go back a few days
bevy121 (117)
650507 2008-03-19 02:54:00 I'll have to download hijackthis, can I install it and stuff while in Safe Mode?

I'll try the last known good configuration and see if that helps...

No, I do not have system restore on as far as I know.

EDIT: Well, the screen resolution is too big, and I can't move the ToS window of hijackthis down far enough to click "accept", and changing the resolution through properties won't apply the changes I select.

Time to try option two.

650508 2008-03-19 03:13:00 I got it open, here's the error log;

650509 2008-03-19 03:26:00 Speedy will give you a more comprehensive to-do list than I can, but you seem to have Norton Internet Security AND NOD32 running - download the Norton Removal Tools from here, and run it:

service1.symantec.com

I'd also suggest you download the Spyware Doctor from:

www.download.com

Install this, and if necessary, run it in safe mode. Re-post an HJT log, and we'll go from there.
nofam (9009)
650510 2008-03-19 03:29:00 Run HJT again tick these then tick fix checked

Close browser/s

Might pay to disable system restore

Uninstall all versions of Java, yours is out of date. Update is in my sig.

Uninstall NOD32 or Nortons, you dont need both

After you tick the above, reboot, then get trojan remover in my sig install it update then click on scan. Then select all options under utilities

Get this as well <-- direct link (cexx.org)

Run it after you reboot.
Speedy Gonzales (78)
650511 2008-03-19 03:58:00 Yep, I ran trojanremover, and there are no option to select under "utilities", just things that reset other things, and no malicious things were found.

Also, LSPFix didn't do much ... here's another log;

And uninstall Java (all versions) then update it, link is in my sig

You dont need Spyware Doctor

Things should be working now, or better than they were?

Yup, it just resets settings under the utilities menu, in trojan remover.
Speedy Gonzales (78)
650513 2008-03-19 04:13:00 Sweet, things are much better. I can even click Start now without it freezing! Also, opening Firefox/other stuff works now and doesn't give me the single hourglass cursor.

Yep, Norton's gone, and I've updated java. Anything else I need to do?
