Yep.

Like I have said before I pretty much like computers across the board, Apples fail in my eyes because we know what the hardware is really worth and because I'm not one to get excited over an OS so OSX means nothing to me.Bring the prices down, Get rid of all that included Apple software,Give it some real gaming capabilities and I would grab one.

Linux I applaud as a concept, but it still has a long way to go, Can it even get there? Not without the fragmented nature of the beast being addressed, and not without someone with a boatload of cash getting behind it.Which would ruin some of what makes it special in many peoples eyes.

As for MS, they have had their day in the sun, Sooner they go the better, I haven't seen any evidence they are able to address the realities of the current climate, Nor are they willing to face some cold hard facts.

Only way I can see them doing a reversal is to ditch the NT line and start from fresh, but I don't think for a second they are capable of it.

350069 2005-04-29 02:56:00 Get rid of what included software? It is a knowen fact that the ilife suite that comes with a new mac, is great software, even heard comments from windows users of there wish for it to be ported, for free software that comes with a machine is a lot better than software you pay hundreds for and a review from pcworlds (www.pcworld.com) magazine plod (107)
350070 2005-04-29 02:58:00 Vinref please don't take my comments as tring to start a fight or hijacking.
My apoligies for any offence taken

Amend that to all the included software and all the bells and whistels of the OS that Mac fans rave about.(on the same token I would prefer Xp was moduler install and the user had control over how much junk was loaded on)

Besides, It makes not one bit of difference to me what Pcworld or any other corperate entity thinks of anything or any product. If they like it so much they are free to use it till the cows come home.

350072 2005-04-29 03:49:00 What do you want a new OS for?????
It took long enough to get most of the bugs out of XP. I,for one, don't want another performance like that again.
Or do you think MS has learned how to do it properly this time?

Generally to create another revenue source, but also to keep up with the Jones'. Yes, the pressure is on for MS to come up with something truly spectacular in terms of... well everything. From the various reviews of the beta floating around the web, it seems that MS is choking on the task ahead of them. :groan:

350074 2005-04-29 13:14:00 Microsoft did a great job with XP, its a bloody good operating system, its incredibly stable with heaps of great features, and it looks good. For all of you who don't want the "look" of XP, you can easily disable it. I recently installed XP on my sisters 2nd hand 233 mhz laptop (shes a poor student), disabled all the xtra whizz bang features, and it runs pretti dam smoothly.
As for security, maybe should look at this:
dictionary.reference.com
its the definition for "evil empire", which is, microsoft. Microsoft is the biggest and largest providor of operating systems (over 90%), XP is currently installed on 64% of computers, so of course hackers are going to target them. Linux and Mac users aruge that they OS is more secure, maybe its just coz hackers cant b bothered trying hack linux computers (3.3%) or mac comps (2.9%). Or because hackers use linuix....

im not saying microsoft are perfect, (im using firefox to type this), but they deserve quite a lot of credit for how far theyve brought us over the years.

350075 2005-04-29 14:06:00 You may have seen this before . ( . euronet . nl/users/frankvw/rants/microsoft/IhateMS . html" target="_blank">www . euronet . nl) If you can look past the ranting, it's actually got some very good info on coding and systems and why MS has failed to deliver on all it's promise .

For your info, the hackers are not simply attracted by the numbers (look at Linux/unix servers vs MS ones), but the fundementals of the differing structure of the OS's . That's not to say nix is not vulnerable, it is, but it's a damn site harder to get into a properly configured nix kernel than it is to get into a properly configered MS one .

My own experience is more in the breaking of OS's than doing anything particularly marvelous with them  I can attest from that experience that it is far harder to break a nix OS, but very easy to kill it dead if your stupid, your logged in as root and have your fingers on the wrong buttons .

Enjoy the read, there are more balanced writings to be found, but not as entertaining .

BTW, installed base is not an indication of quality or functionality, at best, it's simply a reflection of marketing prowess or even the competition scoring foot shots . Beta vs VHS is a good example of that .

yes we have all heard that before, the only reason other os are safe is because nobody uses them...
