349983 2005-05-03 22:16:00 Sorry, I can't help there Hersh. I am with Vodafone, and you can enter any pop account you like. As I said earlier, I use Snappermail instead of the email app that is included with the phone, but I don't see any difficulties - according to the handbook all you need is a provider that supports the pop3 protocol.

I haven't used the camera optimiser you refer to - I already have a digital camera, and the camera with the Treo 600 is just as crappy as most cellphone cameras so I have no need to use it.

If Telecom is telling you you need an xtra account, and you find out that you don't need one at all, then I would refer them to the Commerce Commission.

That is of course if they haven't restricted the phone in some way to force it to only work with their system, in which case I wouldn't go anywhere near them. I would go to Vodafone instead (well, I have gone to Vodafone anyway, and feel quite satisfied with their service, so I am biased).

349984 2005-05-03 22:27:00 The only limitation on email access is the ability of the ISP that you use to accept access from a connection outside their domain.

Some do refuse to accept it, for reasons of spam protection (relaying).

It is between your ISP and you, Telecom don't really enter into it.

I have not bothered with the camera software, as who would ever want to use a fixed focus small resolution camera anyway. Even with "improved resolution".

349985 2005-05-03 22:43:00 I've decided to return this phone, so I'm now having a row with Telecom in Auckland. It is no use to me if calls are dropped.

I went to the Telecom shop in Invercargill and they weren't surprised. Essentially they said, if I wanted a phone then there were plenty which had much better clarity and coverage than the Treo. This fancy machine is fine in Auckland with plenty of signal but no chop in Otago/Southland.

Of course if you live in a dustbowl like GF, its probably OK too. :D

I'm sorry to hear that Winston. I think it sounds like Telecom blaming the tool rather than their own service. I have never lost a call on the Vodafone network, and I travel all over the country. I have had network coverage problems in some places - e.g. parts of Hokitika, and last week I had to go outside to a particular part of my nephew's property in Waitati to get a signal(!). However, once connected, I haven't lost calls, including getting my email. I do know however that in Amerika there are reports that the GMS/GPRS version of the Treo 650 works better than the CDMA version that is used by Telecom. Perhaps that is also true of the Treo 600.

349987 2005-05-04 00:13:00 I replaced the email programme that comes with the Treo with SnapperMail - which is an excellent email programme invented right here in Godzone. I use Vodafone and Paradise - never have any problems. BUT DON'T USE THE BROWSER unless you want a horrid surprise at the end of the month.

HA!I used my nokia 6670 and my data charges was like $160 When it came out.Use the net.Don't use your phone for internet surfing!!!
