ADSL

348364 2005-04-24 21:28:00 Telecom have a responsibility to protect and inform their customers. I believe they do very little in this respect.
Xtra make a big fuss about their email having virus filters...well my partner's mother had her whole system screwed up by an email that slipped through Xtra's blocking. The problem is they lead users into a false sense of security...and they charge a fortune.

In fact diallers are spyware not viruses. You need to have spyware checkers, more than one, installed and run them regularly.
Xtra, while they do filter to a point, say on their website that you should have your own precautions in place.
You don't rely on the police to stop your house being burgled do you? Why rely on other companies to protect your PC?

Yes, but yoiu have to make sure that if you do still have a 56k modem, that it isnot plugged into anything otherwise you are still ablle to get a dialer and crank up your phone bill.

348367 2005-04-24 22:34:00 don't get me started on this again......

firstly it is the users fault.

there is plenty of FREE software on the net to stop these dailers. if a dailer can get through then the odds are they are infected with other things as well.
as far as telecom goes, you used the service you pay for it. due to fairgo's little saga telecom will repay the first instance and will refuse any more. so if your friend is having to pay then this is most likly not their first time. serves em right for not learning last time.

at the end of the day the owner is resonsible for what their pc does just like with every other aspect of life.

348368 2005-04-24 22:36:00 Bear in mind, Telecom is quite generous - the first time you get hit by a dialer, they will waive the charges - just talk nicely to their helpdesk staff and tell them what has happened. After that, it's your problem for not learning from your own mistakes. somebody (208)

348370 2005-04-24 23:35:00 it's hardly fair to be labelled as stupid as a result of being a victim of something like this.
I think he used "stupid" instead of "unknowledgeable" which would be a more appropriate term.

348372 2005-04-24 23:40:00 Simple. Don't browse pr0n and you won't get half the dialers that are out there Edward (31)
