651065 2008-03-20 08:40:00 Hi
Being a bit of an oldie and getting paranoid I just noticed an unfamiliar occurance.

I usually automatically look at my internet icon in the taskbar without thinking(all these slow connections which have improved considerably)anyway I noticed yesterday that my connection icon had disappeared and I had a safely remove icon in its place(cable modem).

Not sure what to do I can still access the internet hence this request, found also that my network folder is empty.Searched by google and this site but not a positive answer.

Anyone able to give some info would be appreciated.

Regards Gramps

What have you got thats removable (like an Ipod / USB flash drive)??

If this is XP, click on the < on the taskbar bottom right, it maybe hidden

651067 2008-03-20 08:44:00 No idea what your problem is. Did it just randomly disappered? Or did you do something before it happened. Please give us more information, mainly what Operating system you are using, eg Windows XP, Windows Vista etc SPARTAN 860 (2618)

651071 2008-03-20 09:12:00 Not to sure off the top of my head if this will work with USB, does with Ethernet -- Go into the control panel, Start/control Panel/network Connections/ locate your Connection if its showing, right click it,/ Properties/ check the check box down the bottom is ticked that says " Show Icon in Notification Area when Connected", if it is already ticked untick it, close the box, reopen then retick it / OK. wainuitech (129)

651073 2008-03-20 09:30:00 This sound like the prob (hardware.mcse.ms)

Might be this browser service thats disabled or a registry entry is missing

One site pointed to a nasty / rootkit that can do what youre seeing (or not seeing). Have you scanned this system recently ?
