651807 2008-03-23 03:29:00 Hey, Recently I swapped out a hard drive from my old computer into my new one . Well the hard drive that I swapped out had 2 partitions on it both around 35gb or so .

My problem is that when I initially swapped it in only part of it was being detected, and I couldn't even access that so I thought that possibly formatting the part that was being detected would fix the problem .

Well now I can access only that partition but the other partition is still not even being detected at all . Can anybody help me find out what exactly may be wrong? Thanks in advance, and I'm running Windows XP in case it's information that's needed .

651808 2008-03-23 04:22:00 Chuck in a live linux cd such as Ubuntu run it from the cd don't install it and see if you can see both partitions that way gary67 (56)
651809 2008-03-23 04:42:00 If there is nothing on the drive that you want then just format the 2nd partition as well or extend the first partition to the whole drive. kjaada (253)
651810 2008-03-23 18:04:00 The problem with that is I can't even see the 2nd partition of the drive at all normally. I haven't tried to use Ubuntu to see if it's detected yet. So what exactly would I do? Do I just download and burn Ubuntu onto a CD and run it from there? Tiptoe (13529)
651811 2008-03-23 18:19:00 You would possibly be best to download and burn an iso of Gparted.That is a partitioning app that is handy to have anyway.If you want to go for Ubuntu then,
download the CD iso and burn it then you will need to set yr system to boot from the CD instead of yr HDD.Once the CD is loaded you will be able to run Gparted from inside Ubuntu and reformat yr disc.Which ever way you go you have a fair bit of a learning curve but once you have "been there done it" you will have useful tools for future blips.

651812 2008-03-23 18:32:00 How did you format the first partition cause the tool you used to do that should reveal the 2nd part and let you extend the first partition to use the full disk. kjaada (253)
651813 2008-03-23 18:40:00 I used Disk Management(The My Computer-->Manage-->Disk Management thing)
Here's a picture showing the drives. The problem is that the 2nd drives partition isn't shown at all. Also how would I go about extending the first partition?Maybe it might work.
Thanks

Edit: Oh and by the way the Drive E is the hard drive I'm talking about, the first drive works perfectly fine it's only the 2nd drive and it's partition that i'm trying to get back so I can use it again.

651814 2008-03-23 18:48:00 Not too sure on this tool as I use Linux but I would think you clk on E and delete the partition the clk on yr other part and "extend"should be an option.Or delete E then reformat. kjaada (253)

The thing is C and E are seperate hard drives in the first place. The partition that I'm trying to get back isn't even displayed at all in disk management or anything so I can't fix it since I can't see it. The hard drives C has nothing to do at all with what i'm talking about.

651816 2008-03-23 19:05:00 Now I understand.Sorry,it may be best to wait till a windows person comes along or try Ubuntu I am pretty sure it will show the disk.Just a thought tho when you installed the disk was it in the same ide cable or on one on its own If on the same cable the jumper will have to be set to slave. kjaada (253)
