651643 2008-03-22 20:47:00 ffmpeg is brilliant. Unfortunately it's a Linux CLI program, but if you're prepared to take the time to learn it, it'll do a brilliant job.

Another good option is MediaCoder (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/) - also excellent, but in later versions the GUI has become rather 'clunky'. This one is a Windows GUI application.

Both of the above are opensource, and both are free.

651644 2008-03-22 21:52:00 Quick Media converter (www.snapfiles.com) and Any Video Converter (pcsourcepoint.blogspot.com) (from my site) are suitable converters, based on the open source ffmpeg codes, and both have a attractive interface... kahawai chaser (3545)

651646 2009-03-02 08:56:00 I'd have to recommend HandBrake (http://handbrake.fr/) over anything else out there. Freeware, uses the awesome FFmpeg (I'd say every other video converter software out there does) to do a lot of the work, and the most recent version accepts almost any source format which is great cos it was previously restricted to only ripping DVDs.

Go grab the 'Windows GUI' Handbrake if that's the most appropriate version for you. All the options are in plan view so it can be a little daunting initially but just start out with converting to a preset before messing with the options.

WinFF (winff.org) adds a GUI to ffmpeg :)
