651271 2008-03-21 03:20:00 Hi,
I have just purchased a new note book running vista home premium and bundled with the standard 90 day NAV trial. I use it mainly for internet browsing and the occassional downloading via DC++ along with the standard; word processing, photos, playing music etc. I am only on dial up at this stage but broadband is a possability soon. In the past I have run NAV2005 and AVG free, not really liking either.

After searching the forums and google for opinions and reviews I have come up with the following options that appeal to me,

Kaspersky Internet Security 2008
Eset Internet Security 2008

Or one of the above antivirus programs (Kaspersky or Nod32) combined with a recomended firewall. These will be used in conjunction with windows defender and another anti spyware program or 2 (recomendations welcome) aswell as Firefox as my browser.

What I am after is something that is simple to use but still offers me advanced settings to play with later on, and doesnt hog resources.

If I could get some advice on what programme/s to choose it would be greatly appreciated, even better if you have had experience with both. Any added tips or suggesons welcome.

651272 2008-03-21 03:38:00 Go with ESET Smart Security.... I actually bought it online today, been using the trial for some time with great enjoyment.

ESET stands out from the rest. Small unobtrusive and gets the job done.

651273 2008-03-21 04:22:00 Nod32 can be cracked. Kaspersky I don't think has been. lightfoot (39)
651274 2008-03-21 04:26:00 Both have good ratings.
Download the trials first. try one then the other. Choose the one you liked best.

So can Windows.... I don't see anyone not purchasing Windows.... do you!!!

Your statement makes no sense and doesn't offer the OP any sort of advise at all...

As with any purchase... do your research and buy the best product you can with the dosh you have... you will find that on this forum many vest confidence in the ESET range of products... obviously the choice is yours... I still recommend ESET Smart Security.

651276 2008-03-21 05:16:00 Like PCTek said, try them both and go with whatever one feels best to you. I'm firmly in the Kaspersky camp, but enough people in this forum who's opinions I respect really rate it, so it's a good choice too.

I'd dump Windows Defender either way tho - it's a pile of poo.

Go with Spyware Doctor, and maybe one other. Spyware Doctor is available as a free download (check Wainuitech's sig for a link).

Let us know what you decide!! :)

651277 2008-03-21 05:47:00 Nod32 can be cracked. Kaspersky I don't think has been. I was gonna write something real rude but it would have been ******** kaspersky CAN be cracked, not that I have tried no reason to I use Eset and have never had any real problems BUT to disprove the statement do a Google Search (www.google.co.nz)
then take your pick.

Obviously, one that is harder to crack is likely better. Nothing is absolute.

651279 2008-03-21 06:37:00 Sigh, all programs can be cracked, Kaspersky and NOD are just as easily cracked... Eset Security Center however, is harder to crack, due to its rarity (its new) The more common a program, the more cracks there are. SPARTAN 860 (2618)
651280 2008-03-21 06:39:00 I used kaspersky before and it slowed down my computer so much making it barely useable.

ESET was fine.Only used 25mb of ram at the most.Didn't slow down my pc at all.

I recommend ESET

I think Kaspersky isn't as straight forward as ESET.I find ESET suits me more.I felt ESET was more easy to use
