2005-05-04 01:51:00 | There can be some sites that have directories of Accounting Programs e.g. www.nzs.com (http://www.nzs.com) maybe I wish i could help more, I kept a text file at some point and time of 6-18 programs i tried for NZ. Basically I would say this: Moneyworks Gold - Expensive but best and simplest tried MYOB - Account structure is a bit more complicated as is the program. Maybe well designed to tie in with accountant *maybe* with less alteration but accounts are confusing to a beginner, maybe not others CashBook complete - Cheap but does some of the basics, not as powerful but good cost option. MS Money Business type - Invoicing has limited control over invoices, feels somewhat clumsy Quicken - Browsed but didn't assess well I built my own basic system in the end: www.invoicesystem.digitalbuilder.co.nz (http://www.invoicesystem.digitalbuilder.co.nz) It wasn't as limited, for me, as cashbook complete. It also didn't cost $600-1000 NZD like the appropriate versions of Moneyworks and MYOB were going to cost me. Took 3.5 days and just some diet coke / v Note: generally, i assume, because of differences in formats it can be cheaper to build a web application and a windows one. Web building may have a simpler format or features to work with making it a bit faster, although in some ways more limited e.g. with XHTML/CSS/ASP [Web Languages] for e.g. you typically wouldn't build Doom 3

I got it off the cover CD, used it for maybe 1 year [?] for some work on the side, then it told me it was going to expire.... weighed up the cost of coding vs the cost of buying, and built the invoice web application. |

2005-05-04 01:58:00 | Gnucash (www.gnucash.org) is worth a gander. I have used it, and it does have lots of features, but double-entry accounting is too much for me. It may have email billing, I don't know, but if you use a *nix you could always generate them and then redirect them to a mail user agent and presto! A script in cron will allow you to do this automatically at given times etc. | vinref (6194) | |
2005-05-04 01:59:00 | Cashbook complete: http://www.acclaimsoftware.com/ Note: I would be willing to provide my invoice system for like bugger all if you wanted, could even adjust or write ones to your needs. I am not looking to make a mint and rip someone off, I want to be fair and work at a respectable fair rate. I have to try and pay my bills too. I am not going to tell you what to do, it is your choice... again sorry I don't have the txt file of the accounting programs I came across anymore.

2005-05-04 02:13:00 | What I do is: Invoicing Via above invoicing System Adjustable invoices any way i want it Finance/Account Management with MS Money Standard. Lets me see the fund changes and chart them and do reporting on finances. Works quite well to integrate with IRD i have found so far. I use ASB Bank FastNet Classic and can export account changes to MS Money. Why this way? Cashbook complete/MS Money Deluxe [Not Standard] Invoicing is too limited, you only have a small amount of control over it. Other options i thought of Pro Choices: MYOB/Moneyworks Cost $500-$1000 in the versions i was looking at. Comparitively: Cashbook complete say $150-200 [?], Little invoice control MS Money Deluxe $Similar, Even More restrictive Invoice control Invoicesystem.digitalbuilder.co.nz $say 50-100 + $100 MS Money. Highly adjustable invoice control [Can be adjusted or rewritten] Others e.g. MYOB/Moneyworks. Some degree of appearance changes, good reporting without MS Money. high price tag e.g. $500-$1000.00. MYOB may require consultation or training to get more out of it, Moneyworks *seemed* simpler.

2005-05-05 12:29:00 | Sorry, I have been rather busy lately with school etc. Just catching up on this now :) ** Edit Ok, caught up. CreightonBrown I like the look of your thing very much. Had a quick look at sourceforge: sourceforge.net sourceforge.net They seem not too bad, free, and php, which my server is. Though i guess i could just run an asp server locally for Creighton's thing, and then I wouldnt have to worry about any security issues either. ** Goes and thinks over everything
