| 351028 | 2005-05-01 05:05:00 | Hi! I'm an Aucklander, but I guess it'll apply to the other cities as well.... What I don't get, is why people still buy from Dick Smith? Granted, some things you can only buy there, but computer accessories like keyboards, adsl modems, CD-Rs..... WHY? The price is at least 150% compared to other stores, and almost twice as much compared to small computer shops.... Oh, on another point as well.... Just a quick survey here... Do you guys know that you can bargain at electronic stores? Like when you buy TVs, computers, "the big ticket items".. I was quite surprised the other day, when someone just bought a computer for the shelf price. If you just ask them "What's the best price" for the item, they often reduce it by about 10% at least |

| 351029 | 2005-05-01 05:08:00 | I do. My internet connection goes through DSE filters to a DSE router, through DSE network cables to a DSE networkcard. I don't have a problem with it. Sure, some things are more expensive, but for an $11 network card there's no point going halfway across christchurch to save a couple of dollars | Edward (31) | ||
| 351030 | 2005-05-01 05:19:00 | well cash talks when buying, and even on credit As for dse, first port of call always open, name pops up on pricespy often at the top which usually pretty cheap!. If i want something i usually want it now, not tomorrow or the following day. Just got to know what your after, because there staff can be quite useless. Nice to see we agree on one thing Edward |

No, I don't think I would ever buy a PC there, but my modem is DSE branded, I got it because it was the on special, which made it a very good price. Same with my graphics card, (9600 pro), it was the cheapest at the time, and a good buy. Some of the workers there really know their stuff, and sholdn't be ignored, even though most should be! The biggest reason I can think of for shopping thereis because they actually carry the bloody stock they advertise!!! |

| 351032 | 2005-05-01 05:26:00 | I buy from DSE out of convenience. Mind you, I don't buy much from them (currently have 2 comps connected via DSE Xover cable); I usually only go there for sundry items (cable ties, and other stuff). Most hardware I stick with the comp shops |

| 351033 | 2005-05-01 05:31:00 | I think DSE (powerhouse) is great its my favourite store I go there quite often. I am a Vip with them so I get some good discounts, their xbox games are the cheapest I have seen I will be getting Jade Empire for $76.41 when its released this month. Most of the stuff I buy comes from there  | Overdrive_5000 (4950) | ||

Ask if they can do a special deal on it, get a quote, then take it to another store and see if they can beat it. Got $285 off on one item for doing that (25%). :D |

| 351036 | 2005-05-01 05:43:00 | Dick Smith are OK, and in the Hutt/Wellington area they, together with Jaycar, are the only electronic componentry stores I know of these days. It helps too if you have a DSE trade card. | Terry Porritt (14) | ||
| 351037 | 2005-05-01 05:54:00 | Dont have any problems with them, occasionally go there for odd bits and pieces and when there is stuff REAL cheap. Although their Manukau City branch can get a little busy and no-one will be manning the cash registers so I gotta wait, parkings a little poor but thats about it. :2cents: |
