350522 2005-04-30 00:53:00 I want your opinions on this computer store out in Manukau. I have had an extremely good experiance with them from the beginning when I didn't know much about computers, I got most of my knowledge from them and my first computer, since then my AMD Athlon XP 1800+ cpu died about a year out of warranty I took it back expecting some trouble and there was none they happily took it back and sent it back to AMD which admitidly took a few months however I eventually ended up with a Sempron 2500+ which is faster than the Athlon 1800+ all this with absolutely no trouble. Also I didn't stick with the Sempron, in the meantime while waiting I got a new motherboard from them (Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL) and an Athlon XP 3200+ from Vivid Computers. Tell me about your experiances. bluepoles (7281)
350523 2005-04-30 02:04:00 I bought my first PC from them.
Service was fine.

System started randomly rebooting after a while. Checked for spyware etc, did the usual stuff. Still under warranty, so took it back.
They said the motherboard was "fussy" so replaced it free.

I assume "fussy" meant that it doesn't play nicely with some other device.
Since upgraded & now it's the kids' PC.

So OEM Computers is OK.

How old was your 1800? All AMD CPUs have a 3 year warranty. Actually so do all Intels too.
They gave you a Sempron because there are no XP CPUs being made anymore, the Sempron is now the only Socket A AMD Left.

BTW I don't know anything about OEM - never been there so can't comment on their service.

350526 2005-04-30 03:29:00 But surely you've answered your own question. You are happy with their service. Graham L (2)
350527 2005-04-30 04:27:00 My only complaint with them. I tried to buy a computer from them once, but they won't take credit card orders over the phone. And I refuse to drive up to Jafaville to buy anything. So I had to go elsewhere. JJJJJ (528)
350528 2005-04-30 08:23:00 Currently running a P450 (6 years old) and a P1000 (3 years old), both bought from OEM.

Only problem so far was a dodgy sound card on the 450 earlier this year, but then again I have upgraded HDD's/CD's/DVD's drives on both over the years, so I guess the bits which could have failed has been replaced over time.

Service at purchase time was good in both cases.
