350324 2005-04-29 12:58:00 If you were hiring and a prospect showed up to an interview for a job that pays $50k+/year, would you look (dis)favourably on them with everything else being equal? vinref (6194)
350325 2005-04-29 13:09:00 If their outfit was in order and hair didnt look dirty and they had allthe qualifications then I would look favourably. Rob99 (151)

350328 2005-04-29 21:54:00 Ah the world of men's frailty. Bet you all would if it was a capable spunky chick with dreads. mark c (247)
350329 2005-04-29 22:25:00 Depends if the position involves meeting customers / clients. If I had a business such as a music store (instruments or CDs DVDs), or one of those dodgy party pills & smoke dope shops, then having a person with dreds would be an advantage. But the general population here in NZ is basically conservative and simply would not like to deal with a person with dreds, not trusting them. As for me, if they present themselves intelligently, civily, positively, then no problems. Strommer (42)
350330 2005-04-30 00:54:00 No, nor anyone with primitive tribal rings and studs all over their faces and other unmentionable parts, but then I'm not in a hiring position ;)

Edit, but on consideration if they listened to Bix Beiderbecke and Paul Whiteman, then I would!

What if they had dreadlocks and listened to John Coltrane?

No, definitely not. They would have to prove that they only listened to pre 1935 pop music before I would even consider it

350333 2005-04-30 04:52:00 Hairdo wouldn't really come into it for me, except for if I was working in a place which banned dreads for whatever reason (hygiene, aesthetics, whatever). More important would be their work ethic/attitude, overall personal hygiene (I can't stand icky-looking chemical dreads) etc. etc. Rugrats (6953)
